Sorry, pressed send too soon. It might not apply to you but it's a site full of interesting information.

The northisterone in Evorel Sequi made me very depressed during the fourth month of taking it, but it suits dome people

Hi ladies thanks for your replies.

CLKD I've tried everything to combat PMS - supplements, diet etc all to no avail.

That was a really interesting read Truffecat and I definitely think the majority of my issues are down to hormones. My anxiety has got so bad over the last few years. I was diagnosed with panic disorder with agoraphobia and at one point was housebound for 2 years. I've suffered for years with multiple panic attacks on a daily basis. Since starting the Evorel 50 patch I haven't had a panic attack except for when I started the norethisterone. Had the last norethisterone yesterday at 1pm and was supposed to take them for another 10 days. Only had 3 tablets in all but I felt so ill both physically and mentally there's no way I can continue.

I've bookmarked the site and I'm coming to make notes re treatment and think I'm going to go private if gynae outpatients don't call me back tomorrow. Also got a reply from Dr Currie who has confirmed all your advice that the progesterone prescribed was too high and that Utrogestan may be more suitable. She also confirmed that the doctor I saw at the hospital had given the wrong instructions for the patches. He said I had to change them everyday, the pharmacist questioned this too. The Evorel only needs to be changed twice a week. Don't have much faith in this doctor which is not surprising! I'm hoping it's his consultant my query gets referred to.

Maybe the Pharmacist or Dr Currie should contact this particular Doctor to update him?  :-\

Also: it takes 3-5 months of remembering to eat every 3 hours before 1 notices an effect.  How long did you try eating properly?  I used to forget  ::) - I would feel ill, begin the eating every 3 hours, 24/7; feel well and forget to eat. It took 3/4 months B4 I took myself in hand and made sure that I shopped suitably for appropriate snacks.

It's not something to be done lightly!  Hormone fluctuations burned off my energy quicker than I realised and I would feel very, very, ill  :-\  :'( ……. it also depends on what I ate; which took energy thinking ahead  ::)

I didn't find it too hard to be honest as I've always had a very healthy appetite and feel the need to eat little and often. My body tells me when it's hungry and I feel sick and dizzy if I leave it too long so I make sure this doesn't happen. I'm fortunate that I've always stayed slim.

Unfortunately I can now only do it in the day as after an endoscopy I was diagnosed with acid reflux and was told not to eat 4 hours before bed to prevent the stomach contents from refluxing up into my oesphogus.

Re that doctor I shall be contacting his consultant and if I can't speak to him I shall write. I'm so angry that I've suffered like I did because of his incompetence

4 hours is an awfully long time  ::) - has that advice worked?

I find if I take my evening meds too close to bed time I get reflux/heartburn  :-X - awful  :sigh:

I'm not sure why you weren't just given Evorel Sequi patches to be honest. These contain oestrogen for the first two weeks and then the next two weeks they are oestrogen plus norethisterone. Peri-menopause lasts for eight to ten years so if you are in your forties then you should be in peri.  If you decide to stick(!) with patches then FemSeven have a kinder progesterone which I found didn't give me PMS symptoms whereas the Evorel did. FemSeven patches are changed once a week but they are difficult to get to stick quite often.

The acid reflux is not as bad but I still get some simply from laying down. I have the top of my bed elevated as recommended and try to sleep on my left side but always wake on my right. I never get reflux after eating it's from laying down - volume reflux. Think I should invest in an electric bed and see if I can sleep sat up

Hi Taz, after the experience I've just had I'm pushing for the Utrogestan and that's what Dr Currie has recommended. I'll give it a go orally first and if I get side effects I have the option of the vaginal route!

It does seem a really good product. I couldn't have it due to a sensitivity to soya - I was looking forward to the sleepiness it's said to promote! Let us know how you get on.

You were told to change the patch every day? Good grief! I wonder how many other women that doctor has sent off with strange prescriptions?

It's worrying isn't it Trufflecat? When I went to get the prescription from the hospital pharmacy they wouldn't let me have the prescription and said I would have to come back for it as they would need to speak to the doctor about his directions. The pharmacist said he'd spoken to him and he was still insistent to change everyday despite him saying it wasn't necessary. There's no logic to it as the patch releases a measured dose every 24 hours.

Waiting for the hospital to call me back today if they don't I'll try my GP and if they won't give me the Utrogestan I'll go private. In limbo at the moment as I'm currently supposed to be on progesterone. Don't know where this will leave me with regards to my cycle days when I do get a new prescription. Or maybe the 2 days of the ridiculous dose of the norethisterone might give me a bleed.

Your GP should be able to prescribe ……….. maybe suggest that he speaks to the Hospital Pharmacist?

Let us know how you get on!

Rang the GP and the receptionist said I should wait for the hospital to call me back. Rang the gynae unit again and she said they'd given my message to the doctor but he was in surgery all day today and tomorrow and off Friday so i will have to wait until Monday.

Hope I'm okay leaving the oestrogen patch on. I'll be confused as to where I am in my cycle now as am I right in thinking I won't get a bleed because of the patch?

If you ovulate you will get a bleed irrespective of the oestrogen patch.
