Palpitations especially when I eat, shortness of breath
« on: February 18, 2016, 09:19:23 PM »

This is a weird one.
I had an ECG at the A & E recently as I was getting short of breath and palpitations.
Blood pressure always on the low side, but assured it was fine.
ECG was fine, and they said if it happened again to go back to my GP.
Well it did happen again and the GP recommended I had a 24 hour Ambulatory ECG which I am still waiting the results for.

I also have catarrah on my chest and coughing first thing in the morning only. I'm yawning alot like my lungs try to get more air.
Went to the Pharmacy and told her my symptoms and she said that it sounds like a virus of some sort, if I went to my GP, I  would not given antibiotics for this and she recommended taking cough medicene.
I wondered as it has dragged on for over a month now, whether it is likely to be a chest infection of some sort.  Trying to get an appointment with GP tomorrow, anybody else suffered something similar?

Thanks
Rebecca

I found that pre-menstrually I would get bloated which made me breathless, almost asthmatic.  Once the bleed was over the symptoms would go, I only remembered them the next month.  My belly would be very bloated too.

Maybe something to clear the nasal passages?  Over-the-Counter nasal sprays? as well as a decongestant, i.e. Vicks Vapour Rub?  I had a cough for months which gave me a tickly throat if that makes sense  :-\ - having Vapour by the bed in the night eased symptoms.  Sometimes breathing in Vicks with head over a bowl under a towel can shift anything chesty.

A chest infection would be obvious by now.  Some pain when breathing deeply.  Wheezing …….. maybe your GP will listen to your chest ………  no ABs will be prescribed unless there are severe symptoms of infection.

CLKD - Thanks, I rub Vick on chest every night and morning,  nasal passages only blocked first thing and clear once I get up!
Deep breathing makes me cough and I wheeze a little at night....
It is the palpitations and loud thumping heart beat that is worrying.... I am hoping that if something on the 24hour ECG was wrong... they would at least have contacted me by now.
I found the drop in temperature recently only aggravates my chest more  :o

Sparkle - Thanks, I have had IBS for 24 years now but  I don't currently have discomfort in my stomach and ribs.  The doctor at A & E told me to reduce my intake of coffee to reduce palpitations, but I don't drink coffee only herbal tea! The 'not enough air in lungs' feeling, like you -   I can relate to though! I wonder whether it is anxiety???

GP called me today and said that my ECG result came back fine...
I said I was still suffering these Palpitations and he said if it happens again that I should massage the carotid artery in my neck and see if that helps the palpitations. Speaking to someone that has SVT issues and suffers from Palpitations a lot, she advised that this was quite dangerous and not to do it as you might pass out!

He said if that did not work make an appointment to see him.
Anyone else had similar advice from their GP?

Thanks

I would have thought that pressure on the carotid artery would be unwise  :-\ …….

Have you had a Very Good Hoover round?  We found that a lot of my allergy symptoms went when we got rid of the dust and it certainly helped!  Could you need new pillows if you are better once up?
