Pattern in anxiety & foggy brain!
« on: February 17, 2016, 12:55:45 PM »

Hello
Now that my cycle has restarted, I have began to notice a pattern in my anxiety and brain fog.  I'm still not taking HRT as yet but intend to once this month finishes.

Basically from Day 1 - 12, I feel very anxious, fretful and have brain fog in the mornings. Then things start to improve until my period starts. I do get a bit of pmt and eat more, but that's all.

Strangely this month, I'm still spotting and am mid cycle, is this an indication of low hormones and if so, which one.

Also I mentioned before since my periods have restarted, my depression seems to have lifted. However, I do feel down today because I made the mistake of watching a programme about mental illness and it put the fear of God in me as my own recent experience of depression is still too raw.

My FSH levels on Day 4 were 27.

Hi Mis71Mum

Didn't want you to feel that no one was reading. It's quite odd that you're feeling rubbish on the first 12 days of your cycle, as usually that's when women feel better (allowing for a few days during your period when you might still be getting progesterone withdrawl etc).

Having said that, there have been a few months when I have been just the same. Feel low and anxious all the way through the withdrawl bleed, with no good days until about day 12-14 of cycle, then I feel pretty okay until next bleed. Really odd and I don't understand why? But, just to let you know you're not alone.

Hi GRL

Many thanks for the reply...i really appreciate it :).

I suppose I am wanting a logical reason as to why this is, so that I can fix it, if that makes sense!

I know I've got to be patient to expect a full recovery from anxiety and depression and I know I'm getting there.  Just want to make sure that when I start my next hrt, it will hopefully be the right one, as I want to avoid a relapse at all costs.  So from what I have read, I won't be taking any synthetic progesterone!!

You're welcome  :)

Just refresh my memory, did you try transdermal oestrogen with seperate Utro? I had 'fairly' good success with this regime last summer, in that, I enjoyed extended periods of up to 20 days of feeling really well on it, before getting intermittant anxiety, mood swings etc.

It was certainly more successful for me than Femoston has been. I believe I've had issues with absorbing it orally (have had nausea and a touch of diarrhoea a lot of the time), and the only times I have felt 'well and good' on it are when my own oestrogen has been rising anyway.

Hello Mis71Mum.

I now try and avoid all news items and programmes that will make me fret, even if the subject doesn't apply to me I start to worry about how others are affected. It's exhausting!

I hope all goes well for you when you begin your HRT and please keep us updated.

Take care.

Hi

No not tried that regime as yet but hope to soon. I've only ever tried f1/10 and f2/10 and I too got digestive problems with both.

Yes I think I ought to steer clear of TVs and papers whilst I'm extra sensitive.

Sorry for offloading - just fed up of this whole menopause lark, but this website makes me realise that I am not alone.

Yes this was my pattern for quite some time as well. Peak estrogen for me ( at ovulation) for the last year and a half was when I felt my worst. I blame higher than normal spikes of estrogen at this time which is definitely a minority opinion on MM :)   I can induce the same symptoms with an estrogen patch though so I really do believe it's estrogen ( and possibly progesterone withdrawal) causing my anxiety/jitters etc. For other women on here it's clearly low estrogen or falling estrogen that causes those same symptoms.

As I'm starting to miss periods and I assume my estrogen highs are not as high I am feeling much much better. 2 years ago i would lose my mind at ovulation, lie on the ground weeping and generally feeling insane.

Generally messed up hormones of any type = crazy town. :)
