I don't part-take in social media.  I can see that the idea/s might be good but there is so much that can/does go 'wrong', i.e. bullying, 'friends' who aren't [it is purely an expression with any true sense of the word] so I have never got involved.  Some social media should be taken down and re-hashed, knowing what we do now …….. keeping to the original idea but with modern-day variations.

Would I have time - yep!

I use face book, but have put very little info on there, not even my birthday or where I live. Most of my my friends have important details about me anyway. The reason I joined originally was to view photos of my niece who was travelling around the world. It was an easy way to keep in contact. Now it is to find out what friends, particularly those in the USA are up to. I'm nosy! I have never asked to befriend anyone, but seemed to have accrued a few friends. I ignore requests from people who I don't want to hear from. I have 'hidden' friends posts, when I became irritated, but didn't want to unfriend them for various reasons. I have become very fond of a couple of people, who I didn't know very well before. I am now in contact with people I knew when very young, which previously wouldn't have happened. I have never experienced any kind of unpleasant behaviour, but if I had I could unfriend them.

I'm facebook too, like to pass away my idle hours playing candy crush, and other games against friends and family.  and it's nice to keep in touch with family abroad

I signed up to Twitter but honestly haven't got a clue what to do!!!

I use Facebook a lot but only joined about 2 years ago when I was organising a school reunion and it made it so much easier finding and contacting people.  I have organised a couple of smaller reunion get togethers and FB made it dead easy. No phone calls, no stamps to buy and one message to everybody.

I'm on Facebook, MM and a gardening forum.  Can't see the point of twitter.

With Facebook, you can share as much or as little as you like.  I have a friend who is preparing to work in a country which is a high security risk for Western people - she has her Facebook account set to maximum privacy - no one else can 'find' her unless SHE sends THEM a friend request. 

You can choose who you share each post with: everyone, friends, friends apart from acquaintances, close friends...  I don't share much personal stuff, but it's a good way of sharing photos with family & friends who live abroad.  The only thing I wish I'd done is be ruthless about who I accept friend requests from - I find it really hard to say no to anyone if I know them at all, even slightly.  So I've now had to go through and label my 'real' friends as 'close friends' so that I can just share stuff with them!  I don't like to unfriend people, but if I were setting up again, I would be ruthless and only accept requests from people I really wanted to be in touch with regularly.

I joined twitter twice and both times I started getting emails telling me my password and account had been hacked. I have no idea if the emails were coming from twitter, or if they were scam emails, but both times I just deleted my account totally, and I've never tried again. Regardless of whether the emails were scam or not, I feel the security must be very lacking if both times I got exactly the same emails as soon as I joined up. So I simply don't trust it.

As for facebook, I have an account, but I paint and I only use it to post my paintings for friends to see. I rarely post anything else. Frankly I find FB a bit user non-friendly, but I suppose it does have some good points if you have friends/family living a distance away. I certainly wouldn't spend much time on it though.

Yes I'm on Twitter but rarely use it - I mean there isn't time for all of it is there?!

And CLKD - you definitely are on social media!!! And a forum is exactly the same in that you don't know whether folks are genuine - but most of them are - but there are always people who pretend to be someone else even on here! Usually they seem to get found out though 

I get all sorts of friend requests on FB and yes I do ignore a lot of them even though I know them and have met them - because like other I post up pictures mainly for family and friends and don't want all and sundry to see what I'm up to!
