Boobs still really tender
« on: January 22, 2016, 10:42:51 AM »

I posted a little while ago about having sore boobs and what could be the cause? It was suggested that it could be because I had recently stopped Qlaira, I checked this morning and it's been 2 months since stopping. Surely it would be out of my system by now?
Nothing else has changed, Im on 4 sachets of sandrena and a tube of testim over a week. Before trying yaz then qlaira I had always been on 4 pumps of oestrogel and the same testim but I've never experienced the tender boobs except when I was on cerazette a few yrs ago.
Any idea why it's happening now or what could be the cause??
Thanks in advance  :)

Hi Chi Chi

My boobs have suddenly inflated and become tender too. How are you doing on the gel? Are you also taking progesterone too?

Hi GRL,
I really don't understand it?? I'm ok on the gels, been on them over a year now. I'm not great but feel better on the gels than I did on the yaz and qlaira. I'm supposed to be trying the mirena again as I had it years ago when I had to come off the bcp and I was ok emotionally just had a lot of spotting. I used to take ovranette years back which has the same prog I believe and never had any issues at all with that either. Most of my problems esp the anxiety, really low mood, sense of doom etc have all been since my breakdown 3 years ago, I'm scared to try the mirena again now  :-\ Annie Evans wondered if I'd be ok with it now as I was before?? I might ask to try ovranette again instead, at least that way I can just stop if I have to rather than do battle trying to get the mirena removed, had to practically beg before  ::)

How are you doing? You'll love Annie she's so down to earth and lovely.

I tried the Mirena about 10 years ago but it just gave me PMS all month long. I had to beg to have it removed after 9 months. Felt better within 48 hours once it was out.

I have been on Femoston 1/10 for the last month. It hasn't been that much help. Felt fine for about 10 days in the oestrogen only tabs, then as soon as I started the combi tabs my mood dropped, and I have been very up and down since, with the background anxiety and low moods. Then.I'll inexplicably feel pretty much okay for half a day, before plummeting back down.

So draining, as you know. GP has just upped me to 2/10 to see if extra oestrogen might counter balance the progesterone better?

Can't wait to see Annie Evans. I am lining my hopes on her. I didn't realise you'd seen her. What did she have to say?

I decided to see Annie as I felt I was getting nowhere with studd, he actually told me there really wasn't much else he could do for me except the hysterectomy. All he's ever offered me is gels, he did prescribe me yaz but only after I asked for it.
When I saw Annie she too agreed that a hysterectomy would prob be the best solution but there are things we can try first! I just found her so understanding and approachable, the complete opposite to Studd! I could have chatted to her for hours. Unfortunately we were slightly late (bloody traffic)! To the appt and she had her next patient waiting so things were a little rushed.
I'm sure you will get some help and answers from  ;)

I suspect it's nothing to do with what you've taken in the past, and more a sign of what your own hormones are up to now. In peri our own hormones are all over the place and no two months are the same (as we know to our peril!). I think it's progesterone which causes sore boobs, whilst estrogen causes them to inflate (in some people). Have cut and paste some info from another site. On four pumps it's possible you're occasionally still ovulating, hence the reason your boobs are feeling like this.

The reason I say this is that I first had this symptom about four years ago, before I'd considered taking anything (despite then being pretty flat chested, I could no longer stand sleeping on my front!). I also noticed it (less severely) when I first took Q, but it went after a month or so.

A relative oestrogen excess may be associated with symptoms that are similar to early pregnancy:
• nausea
• dizziness
• bloating and cyclical weight gain
• vaginal discharge
• breast fullness
• low libido, especially if not associated with low mood.
A relative oestrogen excess can also be associated with the following conditions:
• benign breast disease
• fibroids
• endometriosis.

A relative progesterone excess may be associated with the following:
• acne
• hirsutism
• vaginal dryness
• sustained weight gain
• low mood
• low libido especially if associated with low mood
• breast tenderness

Thanks for that Briony.

I have just started the 2/10 yesterday, back onto the oestre only tabs, so just waiting now for my withdrawal bleed. Really hope I don't crash with the withdrawal.

My boobs are really painful today, and it feels like I have been wearing nipplr clamps, they're that sore. Ouch!

Chi Chi - for me, those symptoms are progesterone related and usually just before a period. x

Thanks Briony, yes that's what I though too, I keep expecting/hoping for a bleed to come but nothing yet  ::)
As I'm still on 4 sachets of sandrena though I thought that is meant to override my own hormones so I wouldn't be producing/cycling naturally??

I am on the same dose equivalent in patches and am convinced that my own hormones are playing around in the background. I read somewhere that even on these higher doses, you can still ovulate, especially in the first few months. That's why it cant be used as a contraceptive method. Knowing we both have crazy hormones anyway, I guess we're more likely to be the ones who still ovulate?!  :'(
