What does prolapse feel like?
« on: January 15, 2016, 11:38:21 AM »

Ladies, I have had a few caeasarian sections over the years and also minor surgery on my uterus, known as a ventrosuspension or something to that effect to lift it slightly, this was over 12 yrs ago of course, but I still feel discomfort if, for example I shove a big box over with my leg, I will feel a tugging in the bottom of my uterus. Have other ladies who have had Caesarian Sections also experienced this many years on still?
Recently I was helping OH clean up the garage and lifted several boxes, not terribly heaving but plenty of lifting and bending and yes, I did bend my knees! Since then I have felt what I can only describe as a pulling tugging feeling in what I call my undercarriage, so way down at the very bottom of my uterus almost where I would imagine the entrance would be :) Can anyone shed any light on what it can be. I cannot say its painful but its there and I am aware of the feeling, almost like a mild muscular pain. I was wondering if by lifting the boxes I had done some damage and perhaps caused my uterus to collapse but surely I would feel it, I dont feel like I am sitting on a ball or anything....its just a pulling sensation. It started a day after I had been doing the lifting but has been going on for a while now....not sure whether to worry or not.... :-\ Could it be old scar tissue, perhaps old stitches pulling, dunno....am just hazarding a guess...any ideas :)

There shouldn't be 'old stitches', perish the thought!  Not something I have suffered with but couldn't pass by …...

The traditional description is that ladies feel ,'something coming down' or so I was told back in pre history when I trained as a nurse. That said, I have mild prolapses and I cannot feel them.  If you were to strategically positioned a mirror and bear down a little you might see a bulge in your vagina. Have fun!

It could be the very beginning of things dropping down a little. It takes quite some time for a prolapse to actually prolapse enough for you to feel or see. Most women have some degree of prolapse by the time they reach menopause apparently. Bowel, bladder, urethra (fairly rare) or uterus can all fall down. The trick of bending your knees while lifting is to protect your back not your pelvic floor. Before doing any lifting you should pull the pelvic floor up - like doing a kegel exercise - which will protect it a bit. Do you do pelvic floor exercises every day?
