Why are some people prescribed Utrogestan for 25 days per month and others for only 7? What actual difference does it make? I realise that the 7 might be for progesterone intolerance, but what advantage is there to 25?  I ask because I am giving the 25 a go at my GP's suggestion but when I asked her why she just said it was the recommended dose. With oestrogen patches too obviously. After three months I still haven't had a bleed and am only in peri. Does that matter though?

Thanks. That makes sense. My GP has no clue about HRT! She admits it though so always goes and checks up on information. She gave me Utrogestan at my request when Evorel Sequi made me feel appalling. I have a check up in a couple of months.

My understanding is that most peri are prescribed 200 x 12 days are because of the risk of erratic bleeding breakthroughs due to a fluctuating cycle if using a conti (25 or above) regime

I have been thinking about this too. Perhaps no bleeding during peri is indicative of being further in the menopause?

Hi I'm on a really low dose 100 mg for 7 days this is because im prog intolerant and being treated for pmt and probably early peri (im 41) im seeing Prof Studd and this is his normal recommendation for ladies like me! I still get a decent bleed about day 11/12 rest of the time I use ostrogel and testim gel x

Hi Trufflecat - I agree with the others. If you are not far into peri-menopause then you may get erratic bleeding on the 25 days regime - but on the other hand it may just do the trick . I also agree with Stellajane - do not deviate from the licensed doses except under the supervision of your doctor.

Hi. Thanks all. I am not thinking of altering my dose without supervision! My periods have never been a problem, just the pmt, but not having a bleed is quite nice!
