Hi Folks!
« on: January 06, 2016, 02:02:42 PM »

Hi everyone, I'm Rae and I'm 48. I have been having some peri symptoms for the past couple of months or so, mainly hot flushes but the odd day here and there (today being one) of headaches, aching legs/hips, awful fatigue and confusion.

I haven't started HRT yet, but have been to the GP who gave me loads of info (including MM) and sent me away to think about what I want to do next. I've decided I will go on HRT  and have another docs app't for next week but there's so many different types it's baffling.

I'm looking forward to "meeting" and hearing your opinions and experiences

Hi and welcome to MM
Do read up all the info on this site.  The different types of HRT are under TREATMENTS at the top of the page - you will need HRT preparations for peri menopause at this stage. It's trial and error when finding the right HRt that works for you and the peri stage can be tricky as your own hormones will be fluctuating.
Femoston 1/10 is a good one to start with as the progesterone is kinder and suits many women very well.

:welcomemm:  it will depend on if you still have regular periods/not as to what your GP might prescribe.  One type might not suit but don't give up, there is a lot of help 'out there' if you have a supportive GP!

Browse round, make notes …………… ask!

Hi Winkle

 :welcomemm: from me too!

As CKLD says it depends on your periods - what have they been doing over the past 12 months? Are they irregular and have you started to skip any yet?

Also it's a good idea to have general blood tests at this stage too - not to diagnose menopause, but there are other conditions which can give similar symptoms especially fatigue with aches and pains - eg thyroid - but this causes weight gain and feeling cold too ( underactive thyroid anyway). Also some vitamin deficiencies.

As Dancinggirl says there is a lot of info on this site. The basic first choice you need to make is between transdermal (through the skin ie patch, or gel + Progesterone) or tablet HRT.

Do come back to us with more questions when you've read a bit more. In the meantime do have a look at this article about perimenopause here:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/article-perils-of-the-perimenopause.php

Good idea also to look at your general health and start to make adjustments if necessary eg re diet, lifestyle, weight, alchohol etc http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/diet.php

Hi Winkle,

Welcome to the forum. We're here to help as much as we can. No question is too daft or too sensitive. We talk about absolutely anything and everything on here.

Periods have been pretty regular until last Oct, and I haven't had another yet since. Prior to that I think I missed one last year. I never realised how "scatty" this can make you. Sometimes I have to check if I've put my shoes on the right feet!

Just stay in and read the MM forum, and then you don't have to worry about putting shoes on  ;D

Welcome to the forum.  Great to hear your GP knows about MM - a lot don't.  As Galadriel says, no question is too sensitive - as for daft, we're all mad here anyway  :o
