Happy Christmas to all from me too - or at least as happy a Christmas as your circumstances permit!

They guess that they have to have Monday off as it's a Bank Holiday. I feel sorry for those in retail though who only get Christmas Day off and that's it. For the first year in ages I have no sons working in that sector and it's been great to have them staying for longer than one night. I've been eaten out of house and home though - so lovely to have the house back to "normal" but all will be quiet again by Wednesday.

My son had to work on Christmas Day, 24 hr as a paramedic in the USA. Worked again yesterday and saved a life, thanks to all his training, skill and calmness. My husband worked most Christmases, as a policeman, when the children were young leaving me to do Father Christmas duties! My son says thanks to me Christmas was a magical time for him. Praise indeed.

I don't see why shops have to open Boxing Day anyway.  Our local garden centre closes and everyone appreciates that the staff get to have two days off to be with their families.  I've never minded doing essential work on holidays (livestock etc) but I don't see why we have to have shops open 364 days a year.

C..mas should be a fixed time span - C.mas Eve on Thursday, followed by the Day on Friday, Boxing Sunday and 2 days off work …….. we managed without shops being open as kids!

Is it all over yet  :-\ - can I surface ?

Of course if no one actually shopped on Boxing Day, the shops wouldn't open...

As for New Year, for years it's been a normal working day/two days for me, so I'm usually in bed by 10.

...on the 6th day of Christmas my true love sent to me: six geese-a-laying, five gold rings....lalalalala la la la two turtle doves and a partridge in a pear tree!

Of course it's not over yet! We're just half-way through the 12 days of Christmas - still plenty of time to eat drink and be merry and celebrate the season :)

Happy Christmas to you Hurdity.  Have a great break.  We are off to Bodmin for New Year, where are you staying?

Thanks toffeecushion and all....Mousehole and it was fab :). Have a great time near Bodmin whenever you are going?

I love the time after Christmas. I enjoy all of the decorations and "fuss" more then as the actual four or five days of rushing around making sure everyone is happy, comfy and well-fed are over and I can enjoy my own time. I always leave mine up until twelfth night. Must be the big kid in me!

It's over.  Done.  Nights are pulling out ………. I keep the cards and a few decorations up everything else: paper, ribbon, boxes are into the attic already.

All these reminders do not help those recently bereaved or those who are not expecting a loved one to life into the New Year  :'(
