I am the same as Sparkle. The two times I had it worst where 1) The same day I had my oestrogen measured which at the time was 40pmol (so v low) and 2) when I moved to a very high dose of synthetic oestrogen. From this, I can only conclude that it is either 'extremes' or fluctuating hormones, rather than high or low per se, that cause my nausea. (A lot of people think it's just high oestrogen that causes nausea, but for me at least, I know this is not true).

Totally separate to this, I can get a different sort of nausea when my digestive system is misbehaving and I am full of air/gas. I get this horrible feeling of nausea until I burp a lot and it calms down (sorry, tmi!).

As for things that helped, both Milk of Magnesia and Pepto Bismal (sp?) did a bit. Motillium was great but is now discontinued. I am about to start Bioglan Biotic Balance Ultimate Flora Capsules which have good reviews.

Random nausea very much like early pregnancy. Sometimes can't quite tell if i'm actually nauseated or hungry . When I was pregnant I called it 'food hangover' sensation...that feeling of gross after eating a ton of food the night before...except of course I didn't. Sometimes I have to nibble bland salty foods, just like when i was preggo. :(

My nausea feels like travel sickness, it is more in the head than the stomach ???

I've been getting bouts of nausea this week too. The last time it was like this, I was in my mid-teens and needed antacids to stop it.

I seem to be revisiting every weird thing I've ever had during peri. I took a Zantac this afternoon and the nausea went. My stomach was growling like I'd not fed it for weeks and I've just snarfed down my tea! :o

The nausea eventually stopped after a week and then the next day my period started.  It must be hormone related.

Thanks Sparkle, I was on time this month, which is a little disappointing as I was hoping it was stopping.

How are you?

Mine arrived yesterday instead of tomorrow and the nausea has gone... no feeling icky before and after meals! Strangely, I had no signs that one was going to appear this month. I felt on great form yesterday but today I feel really down. Blooming well sick of this peri-nonsense :(

I can't predict them any more - even on HRT. I'm either skipping periods or they are coming close together and quite crampy. Ho hum!

Hello ladies.

I get random nausea but now it seems to be linked to a 'flushy surge' if you know what I mean. I take the point about fluctuations being the cause but I know of someone who is  only taking oestrogen after a hysterectomy and she has the morning sickness type of sensation. This makes me wonder if higher progesterone would solve the problem. Any thoughts ladies?

Best wishes everyone.

Hi there everyone, when I first started with the perimenopause a couple of years ago I had about six months of nausea, it was horrible and the GPs didn't recognise it as a symptom of the perimenopause, thanks to the forum I felt supported. I still get it occasionally. Anyone experiencing this has my sympathy as it's really debilitating felling 'Ill' all the time.

HI,
It was nausea that first sent me to the doctors last year. Mine was so awful it incapacitated me for months. I had days when it took me half an hour to nibble a cracker, usually while retching :-\ I fell to just over 6 stone from 8.5 and underwent many tests. I knew it was hormonal because it was always just after my period ended. When my hormones levels were checked they showed i was well into peri.It is the main reason i went onto HRT to balance my hormones. I couldn't live like that. Nausea just isn't recognised as a symptom of menopause, bizarrely.

Am terribly fed up, to say the least, with the nausea.  This started when my periods stopped at fifty. am now sixty-one!  Dont want to disturb anyone too much by saying that!  Boxing day evening sat down to watch a film, which I rarely do,  and half way through started to feel queezy.  Am 100% sure this is  menopause and all to do with the hormones, I would compare it very closely with pregnancy sickness.  For me it is most often there on waking, along with the anxiety but it can come on with the hot flushing.  I cannot take any positives from the menopause , it has taken away so much!

Meg, don't suffer. Go and see a GP, preferably one who specialises in HRT. I am only 50, but I am on 3-4 weeks HRT (Kliofem) and feel really good so far. My issue was hot flushes, they were non stop really bad and intense. They are gone now. I may get one at night, but not enough to really get me out of bed. My washing has reduced as well thankfully.

I am post menopause but still have nausea- it's just like when I was pregnant! With me it's quite acidic and I've found that taking ranitidine helps
