Hi I am s newbie to this site. I am 55 and went through the menopause at 50. I had breast cancer at the age of 40 and had a right masectomy followed by reconstruction. Since the menopause I have lost my sex drive! I have been offered HRT. but I am unsure whether to take it or not due to the risks! Has anyone else been through a similar experience? Hi Lil mo!

I think that it may depend on what type of breast cancer you had as to whether it is advisable or not. Do you know whether it was oestrogen receptive?

As for sex drive - this is something that is problematic for a lot of us unfortunately. I must admit that HRT didn't change my libido but there is a difference between loss of sex drive and loss of response. The latter is more difficult to improve but if you are feeling other meno effects such as poor sleep, hot flushes etc. then HRT could make you feel better overall and you may well find that your libido picks up again.

If you want to post a bit more info re your lost libido then it may be a good idea to start a topic under Private Lives as this can only be read by members so it is more "private" and you may get more replies.

Recent NICE guidelines might be helpful.  Have you remained well since surgery etc.?  I think quality of Life is important so if you have unbearable symptoms, HRT can be discussed with your GP and an Oncologist.

Thanks for the replies!  I had DCIS, which was a localised form of cancer, and as my menopause nurse explained to me, that I had regular periods further 10 without the cancer reoccurring, taking HRT shouldn't be a problem, BUT it still has risks! And that is what is worrying me!!!!!
