Hi recently started on Elleste solo 1mg...been taking for 10 days and don't feel any different. My experience with GP was pretty useless...the GP knew hardly anything about HRT. I asked if I could visit a well woman clinic or chat to specialist nurse and was told nothing available in my area. Have been suffering with whole raft of symptoms for 12 months so after much research and soul searching decided the symptoms now outweighed my concerns. Had hysterectomy 13 yrs ago but kept ovaries so only need solo HRT...I asked whether tablets or patches would be suitable and was told it was up to me!  I really wanted advice and guidance but didn't receive either. Feeling really isolated and very emotional and like I'm going crazy :-(. Have a lovely supportive husband but I find it hard to talk about how I feel as it sounds crazy to me! Any advice would be really appreciated x

Hi Franco - welcome to the forum. You wont feel isolated any longer!!

1mg is a low dose so it may be that you will need a higher dose to feel better but ten days is really too early to tell so I would say persevere for longer. It can take up to three months before you really know whether a particular HRT will be the one to stop your symptoms and return you to a proper life again!

How old are you if you don't mind me asking?

  from me too Franco! I agree with Taz's advice. Also if the tablets don't work as you say you can always try patches or gel - one of these will definitely help you feel better

Thanks both for replying so quickly.  I have a query about medication I am taking...I had problems needing to pee all the time, waking up at night etc, having to plan trips so there was always a toilet handy!  I went to GP and was referred for cystoscopy which was clear and was advised to take Ditropan as the drop in estrogen was probably causing problems with the lining of my womb and so irritation.  Now that I'm taking Elleste which will raise my estrogen levels do you think I will be able to stop taking the Ditropan?

Having such a hard day...my husband said to me this morning 'you're really not yourself and your very quiet and short'.  I tend to become quite introverted when I feel like this as I don't always know how to explain what I'm feeling and don't want to go on about it.  How can you feel so empty and devoid of emotion and be so full emotion when all you want to do is cry?

If you need to pee a lot ask your Practice Nurse/GP for vaginal atrophy treatment.  The odd dries up as oestrogen levels drop off which can cause itchiness in the skin including the vagina.  We have several threads on vaginal atrophy  but pessaries/creams really do make a difference!

I would think that once HRT is properly in your system then you may well find you no longer need the other medication. It can take up to three months to begin to feel the full benefit of HRT so I would give yourself that amount of time before trying without the Ditropan.

As CLKD says the first line of treatment for urinary urgency when nothing has been found from the cystoscopy is topical oestrogen either in the form of cream or pessaries. Full HRT should give the same effect.
