Hi,
I've had a lot of reassurance from ladies on my thread 'from conti hrt to long cycle'. Following my consultation just 2 weeks I've got sorted out down below, plus the tummy discomfort from starting estradot 25 is now easing. Despite all this, I've spent the past fortnight feeling absolutely frantic about the long cycle I have embarked upon (oestrogen 3 months and then take Provera high dose 14 days) mostly because I'm so fearful of the side effects that a sudden high dose of progesterone might bring upon me; I'm very sensitive to medications and hormone changes.
I emailed Dr Currie last week for her thoughts. She indicated that the present trend is not to use 3 monthly cycle since the high dose often causes side effects but also, there is concern that a cycle every 3 months does not provide enough protection of the womb lining. She suggested continous Utrogestan, either orally or vaginally - the latter would minimise side effects and get over the problem that I rarely have an empty tummy! I wouldn't want to take it vaginally everyday so am waiting to hear back from her for clarification of what the dose would be on say a 6 week cycle.
I am due to see my GP on Tuesday and I'm sure she will prescribe what is suggested (even though I'll feel a complete twit as I only went there 2 weeks ago to get Provera)
Can I ask any ladies who are post meno and use Utrogestan either daily or every 6/8 weeks to just give their doses? I know this info is out there in the forum but so many different threads on it, and I scared myself silly at some peoples side effects looking on the site last night.
I have made a decision that after the GPs appointment I shall either give one round of Utrogestan a go and if it seems ok, to continue with a medium cycle. Or I will simply revert to the Evorel conti patches that I still have in the cupboard from before. I will just have to keep my fingers crossed that two and a half weeks of oestrogen only will somehow just disappear from the womb lining. I know I decided to come off Evorel but on reflection I feel that, yet again, I was experiencing much stress from my teenage children, and that may have been contributing factors to my headaches and irritability - hrt can't fix everything unfortunately!
The other alternative was femiston but this only comes in tablets which, according to dr Currie can give headaches due to the spikes in hormones. I guess taking half a dose morning then evening might alleviate.
What a minefield!
Thanks all for your patience to my rambles at the moment. I will get sorted eventually and enjoy the peace of much reduced introspection.
