Thought I'd Seen The Last of Darned Symptoms !
« on: October 21, 2015, 01:47:05 PM »

Afternoon Ladies,
Haven't posted for a while as have been relatively symptom free.  Previous symptoms which have had me rushing to Docs, a visit to Nuero, (test all clear) we're tingling,  (esp. feet accompanied with tight crampy calves) crawling sensations almost all over, twitches, etc. etc.  Now since around July, I have felt a lot better, but this is also the last time I had a period, these horrid tingles stopped, but I then started with both flushes through the day and night sweats.  Knowing these are menopausal symptoms made me able to cope, BUT, all previous tingly sensations have returned.  My legs feel like there are a hundred ants crawling inside, my calves are tight and cramp whenever I flex, and the crawling is turning to an itch.  I am also noticing various twitches all over. Had a tingly tongue the other day!  My back has been really sore, so I am wondering if the tingling legs are to do with this or Menopause. The one noticeable thing is, now the tingles are back, the flushes and night sweats have almost stopped. (Still no period, although I do get period pain). I was taking a multi vitamin but got out the habit of taking it, so will start this again, although all bloods showed I wasn't lacking anything.  Just thought I'd rant here rather than down at the surgery, as I seem to get better results here.  Thanks Ladies, for taking the time to read.

I can't really offer any support, but didn't want to read and run. I wanted to say hello as your previous posts helped me so much. Our symptoms and experiences were horribly similar! I've moved to a very low dose BCP (to prevent ovulation) and that's helped a lot, especially with the weird, 'not typical meno'  symptoms (the scary ones!). Do still get the odd blip though - so perhaps your symptoms will reduce again soon? Good luck xx

For me it was a drop off of oestrogen …… itching across my shoulders at the back and my insteps itch when I remove socks at night.

Cramp can be caused by a lack of salt in the diet  ;)

You rant away!

Afternoon,
I'm at my wits end.   I'm getting myself really anxious again having 'googled' my symptoms. (I know!!), but I'm starting to think it's more than just meno related.  When I get up in the morning I'm not too bad, but by mid morning the tingling/prickling/crawling sensations start up, mainly in legs, then the itching starts.  I feel like I'm being nipped and bitten all over in random places, as soon as I scratch my back, there's an itch on my face, leg, ear, anywhere and everywhere. I now worried I have liver disease. Also today I have an odd sensation at the top of my thigh near the groin (like a sudden pulling) which comes and goes every now and again. Don't know whether it's a nerve or muscle, but it's quite unnerving. Dr Google mentions BFS (Benign fasciltion syndrome) which seems to fit,  but yet so does small fibre neuropathy !! Goodness, my health anxiety is through the roof.  I'm even sitting looking at my skin to see if I can see wee beasties on my skin, although the itch seems to be coming from the inside.  My nerve ends are in overdrive, and I really don't know what I can take for it.  Last week doctor said it was probably (PROBABLY!), the chronic hyperventilation syndrome I  was diagnosed with last year, but I really think it's something else.
Sorry for such a long post but I feel like I'm going mad with the itching. (I do notice  while I'm walking around I don't feel it, but when I'm still and sitting, it's like  all my nerves are dancing around ) I wish I could stop feeling so sorry for myself.  God bless anyone of you who can be bothered to read this speel. Hi holidaylover, yes I can be bothered to read as I am sick of these stupid symptoms too.  (not the same one, just sick of damn symptoms).

Are you on any other medication? there are a few that can cause the itching.  I know this as I have done the same research as you, my DH is being treated for folic acid deficiency and he has chronic itching, we have him on antihystemine at the moment to manage it, but he is at GP tomorrow for results of his last lot of tests to see.  In his case it may just be the 'folic' that is doing it.

Otherwise if it was me I would be inclined to go back to GP, or another one to find out 'why' and put my mind at rest.

SadLynda and Sparkle, thank you for replying.  I think if I wasn't such a worrier, it would be so easy just to accept menopause and 'get on with it'.  Sparkle, it must be awful having such bad headaches. Luckily that's one thing I'm not plagued with. (Yet!!). I have had lots of blood tests in the past, all were fine, so not holding out much hope there.  Phoned surgery this afternoon and can't get an appointment til after Christmas !

Holiday Maker - as soon as I read your post I thought 'here's another one to join our club' - the club all us ladies like Sparkle, DogDoc etc belong to whose symptoms are just so atypical. I've never had any of the common menopause symptoms and have therefore convinced myself, on occasions, that I have everything from MS to liver disease. Have also had endless tests, scans and MRIs to prove I haven't, yet on a bad day, you can still find me sitting with mate, Dr Google  ::)
Cant really offer any advice other than to say what you describe sounds so familiar. Mine settled a lot when I started HRT, but that's obviously a personal choice. (Drs initially gave me drugs for nerve conditions, but they didnt really help and made my fatigue miles worse). Really hope it eases soon x

Me too. Twitching face, body and VA. My body can dance all on its own. Going back to HRT for a concerted effort. There are times when you read someone else's journey & that glimmer of hope keeps you going

Sparkle, no they aren't so noticeable whilst I'm busy.  Usually get the tingly prickly legs in the morning, noticeable if I'm standing but not so if I'm walking, then the itching usually develops later on in the day, so by bed time I'm crawling.  Definitely worst when I'm sitting still.  Briony, like you I've had MRI's etc, to no avail. Had thyroid checked, B12 etc. too.  This funny sensation in my thigh/groin area, like a tightening feeling is a new one today though!  I agree EnglishRose, there is some comfort in finding someone else going through the same.  Never know what tomorrow will bring.  I did read about magnesium and bought some with added calcium and D3, but if I were to take the recommended 3 a day, I'd be forever at the loo!  I actually came off all the supplements I was taking as I even wondered if they were contributing to the problem.  I know that too much of certain Bvits can cause tingling.  I might start them up again. Hi Holidaylover

My meno journey started suddenly 5 years ago with tingling hands and feet and itching all over being the first of many symptoms.  I've been on a few hrts over the years but have to say the tingling and itching disappeared straight away on hrt.  I've had many other things happen since and umpteen tests and scans but I think for me it has all been hormone related.  I have learnt mainly through this site that some women have many unusual things happen to their bodies during this time.  I have found the last five years really hard, struggling through most days and wondering if it will ever come to an end. This forum has helped me enormously and I'm not sure where I would be without it.
