Re-assuring scan ( I think!)
« on: October 19, 2015, 04:40:31 PM »

Today I had an ultra-sound and trans-vaginal scan to check my womb lining etc and the small fibroid I have.

I was very pleased that even though I have had no progesterone for over 5 weeks my womb lining was only approx  4-5 mm ( maybe 4.5 or 4. eight) so was not thick at all. I still have nearly two weeks to go before I start the next course of progesterone but I am confident it won't have over thickened by then.

Also the small irregularity was still there and I am hoping my GP Gynae will say it is the same fibroid as last time. The good news is that it (if it is the fibroid) was 2 mm smaller this time than 2 ½ years ago and is very very small at 6 mm!  Hopefully I won't have to go for another hysteroscopy...

I am particularly pleased at the womb lining as the last cycle I took norethisterone  at  gynae GP's suggestion  - to “strip the lining” annually in case it thickened on a long cycle – so despite the fact that it is against my “nil-by-mouth, and entirely bio-identical regime – it seems to have done the trick. However it may well have been this thin if I'd used Utrogestan  and no norethisterone, but happy to do this once a year if needed to give extra protection to my womb.

The downside is maybe it means that I'm not getting a huge amount of oestrogen – but it deals with my flushes and sweats and many of the general aches and pains and bladder problems  – so I can't complain!!

I  know we're all completely different but I hope this is helpful and reassuring to some women, or those who think a thickened lining is inevitable on a longer cycle.

I was sent for the scan to check on the fibroid because I felt my bleeds were heavier and longer so not sure what the reason for this but clearly nothing to worry about so far!

Just to add for those who don't know I use Estradot 50 mcg and Utrogestan 200 mg x 12 vaginally ie 12 days in every 6-8 weeks and experimenting with going back to two monthly ie prog on approx 1st of every other month.

Hurdity x  :)

What dose of Noresthestone do you take once a year, Hurdity?

Hello Hurdity .

I'm pleased to see that you have had good scan results.

My recent Hysteroscopy showed that despite a slightly thickened womb lining my small fibroid had completely disappeared. I'm not sure how relevant this is but maybe it shows that the lining and fibroids react differently to oestrogen.
Wishing you well and take care.

K.

Thanks so much for your kind comments girls ( hope you don't mind being called that!)  :)

Oh and I forgot to say she said my ovaries look perfectly healthy too which was a relief.

Ju Ju the doc didn't tell me how much to take so I looked at the packet and none of the conditions applied to me so I think I asked someone else I knew who used to take it on a cycle and I did the same, which was 1 x 5 mg tablet for 12 days instaed of the Utrogestan in that cycle. If you look at how much is taken in a 4 week cycle (1 mg norethisterone) then this seems ample, because an 8 week cycle has 6 weeks of unopposed oestrogen, compared to only 2 weeks in a 4 week cycle ie 3 x as much unopposed oestrogen. I was taking 5 x the amount. It certainly did the trick and I had a longer heaver bleed - which perhaps shows the lining had built up a little over the year despite the Utrogestan.

Hurdity x  :)

I wasn't told what to take other than 1 to 3 tabs a day (5 to 15mg) I did start with 3 for 3 days, 2 for 3 days and 1 for 4 days. The first time I had to take it, I had a very heavy bleed, but this last time, after another unscheduled bleed, much shorter and lighter. It would be interesting to know how my lining is now, but obviously not as it should be. I've contacted my gynaecologist in order to review my progesterone regime. Could do without this concern with a repair op booked for the end of November.
