Basal cell carcinoma

My sister has just told me she has one on the side of her nose. She is being fast tracked to a plastic surgeon.
Any words of wisdom or personal experience ladies.
Not what I expected to hear today.

Oh heck HB! Know someone who had on her cheek. Had it removed & all has been well since. Says it was her own fault. She was a sun worshipper in her youth & of course no sun blocks in her day.
Hope your sister gets seen & dealt with quickly.

A friend had one removed from the side of his nose 5 years ago, he's OK since!

Spoken to my sis in more detail as she had called me from the doctors car park.
She has seemingly ignored this for a long while....so it's 5mm across and the GP says surgery is needed and possibly a skin graft because of where it is. She will be seen either this week or the beginning of next.
GP is not hanging about it would seem.

They don't hang around Honeybun, once she is seen by a Surgeon she will know what is required. What made her visit the GP?

This thing on her nose....that she has had for a couple of years, had started bleeding off and on and getting bigger. Wish she had gone sooner though.
She has never been someone who sat in the sun as she is very fair skinned unlike me who is quite dark.

Gosh Honeybun
Think that was the type that OH had on his ear last year.
If it's totally removed all should be well.
It would have been better if she had gone earlier but the main thing is she's gone now, so treatment can start.
Wishing her all the best

Funnily enough my Head teacher has just been diagnosed with this as has my friend's golf mad husband. They both have to use cream to burn it off - no plastic surgeon referral. They obviously have to keep the areas out of the sun - my friend's husband has to wear a cap when golfing now - his is on the top of his bald head. You can read about it here
http://www.cancerresearchuk.org/about-cancer/type/skin-cancer/about/types-of-skin-cancer#basal
Hope your sister is ok.

Hello honeybun and sorry to hear about your sister.
Although very worrying I think this sort of thing is very common as we age and easily dealt with.
Sending hugs to you and your sister.
Keep us updated and take care.

Hi HB
My mum had one of these on her nose last year, had it removed and is fine. They rarely spread, so not one of the nasty ones
The reason that she may need a skin graft is because there's not much skin to play with on the nose compared to the cheek etc.
She'll be fine

Thanks all.
She is quite upbeat about it for her hubbies sake but I know she is dreading it. Can't really blame her to be honest.
I think she will be better when she gets told exactly what's going to happen.
