« on: October 10, 2015, 08:36:11 AM »

Just been prescribed this at 20 mg. Anyone on it? I need it for anxiety and depression.

You could have continued this on your other thread otherwise you'll get 'lost'! and the answer is no.

I was prescribed it for neurological pain, except my GP made a mistake and started me on 90mg. I ended up in casualty!  :o

Once I was put to the right dose (for me it was 30mg, then up to 60mg, I was fine while I took it. I stopped when I realised the cause of the pain was hormonal. What I must add that withdrawing from these is sometimes less easy. Please, please research it before coming off them if/when you do (Google 'Cymbalta withdrawal'). It's notoriously hard to wean off them, especially as 20mg is the lowest dose and you cant split them easily (I ended up counting the beads, as recommended by many others!).

Good luck x

Sounds awful Briony.

Glad you managed to get off it ok. Funny how GPs don't mention that.

Hello I was on duluxotine years ago when I broke my coccyx. No side effects taking it. It was a real doddle.  Decided to come off as my coccyx was 'put back' &
It started to heal. Coming off that was a completely different experience. I vomited for about a week. Even on the train going to work!

I have no memory of casualty at all, but have since been told, whilst in the waiting room, I decided I needed a wee. I insisted on going alone, but then nodded off on the loo. Eventually, I apparently reappeared in the waiting area, totally oblivious to the fact my knickers were still down to my ankles! Quite glad I remember nothing of the night  ;D

Joking aside, you're right Peterspots. Coming off it is far worse than starting it. Certainly worth researching before going cold turkey.

A GP usually has access to low dose specifically for withdrawal.  Certainly mine did when I stopped Effexor.  It is a psychological problem which then invites physiological feelings bugga  :-X …….. which can be over-whelming!  I had to believe that my GP knew what he was suggesting in lowering the particular dose every 4/5 days - took 9 weeks and I was OK towards the end of a very small dose.

CLKD, the 20mg is definitely the lowest - I struggled to find a chemist who could get it. :(   That's why I ended up counting the beads to get a lower dose.

This might help anyone wanting to come off it http://www.cymbaltawithdrawal.com/

Hi Briony
Started my Duloxetine - how long did you take them for? I'm on Day 4 and feel that the side effects are quite physical. Tiredness, insomnia, confusion but I suppose that's to be expected.

I've counted balls before when I withdrew from Effexor xr capsules, so know it can be hard going.

Any Advice would be appreciated - I'm on 20 mg to start with.

By the way, I take mine at 7 pm but may think about switching if it continues to affect my sleep.

My GP gave me small dose for Effexor withdrawal, no counting beads necessary  :-\

Side effects were very physical for me - especially when I was accidentally prescribed 90 mg as a starting dose!!! Tiredness and nausea was the worst, but it really did wear off. Honestly!

As the link I posted suggests, coming off it is worse. It is known to be one of the worst - if not the worst - to come off, especially because of the brain zaps (see link or google). There is a campaign to get a 10mg dose which would help. The other reason it's so much harder to come off than something like Effexor is that it has such a short half life within your body. It's the opposite to something longer lasting like Prozac. For this reason, lots of people are prescribed Prozac (which comes in very small doses and hangs around for a lot longer in your system) as a bridging drug to ease the Duloxetine withdrawal issues. Without wanting to sound dramatic, do research this. It is not like withdrawing from any other AD.

Thanks for the replies.

Just hate the getting worse before you get better type of thing. Did you take yours morning or evening? How long did you take them for in total.

I haven't got nausea yet but today I have spent all day laid on settee not sleeping but being very drowsy - sort of in no mans land. The house is a tip, so another rubbish day!

3 days on 90 mg. Have no memory of day 3!
2 weeks of 20 mg. Was very, very tired for first 7 days.
Month of 30 mg. no side effects.
Then two months of 60 mg. Had no fatigue but still had nerve pain (only reason I was on it).
Neighbour who was a psychiatric nurse asked me if I'd researched it. I hadn't. Read up and decided I didn't want to be in them any longer, especially as it wasn't helping. At same time got told I had a hormonal imbalance so came off it. Took three months to come off it.

Have tried Citoloprim (sp?) in past and it was much better in terms of how I felt mentally. No side effects.
