How does a prolapse feel.
« on: September 15, 2015, 06:48:33 PM »

I think I have asked this before but...

I am a bit uncomfortable. It feels as if there is a tampon that's slipped. A bit of a dragging feeling. I have looked and felt but I've never really noted what it felt like and have never looked either....so I don't know what I'm looking for.

Previously it was worse in the mornings but better after a BM, but now it's more or less constant.

I haven't used Vagifem for quite a while as I didn't think I needed it, but have started again.

I'm just aware of something.

I have asked a nurse a while ago.....do you think it's a prolapse....I was lying on my back at the time....she said no....
Should I go find out or carry on with Vagifem.
It's just one thing after another  >:(

I'm afraid it does sound like a prolapse Honeyb. Mine felt like I had a tampon not quite in properly. I would re-start the Vagifem and do your pelvic floor exercises every day - at least five sets over the course of the day.

You can ask for a referral so that you know what you are dealing with but really that's only necessary if you want something done about it.

Remember not to lift anything too heavy and before you do lift then tense your pelvic floor muscles. Heavy shopping bags can make things worse and you may feel that you get more uncomfy after carrying heavier things or walking for too long at a time. I used to sit with my feet up at times like that so that things could retreat back up again!! Mine was always better when I first got up and I would pretend that it had all gone back to normal.  :)

Thanks Taz,

I think you are right....
Mine is worse first thing with a full bowel....sorry TMI.

I foolishly thought having had C sections that this wouldn't be an issue.

I will carry on with Vagifem and excercise. Get my bowel investigation over with then go see the GP.. Does it actually end anytime soon  ::)
My mother had a ring in for years....hope that doesn't happen quite yet.

Hi Honeybun, if it was better after a BM it may be a rectocele. I have one and that sometimes feels like a tampon stuck at the wrong angle. One of the consultants I saw last year diagnosed a rectocele but other doctors have said everything seems ok but I think everything falls back into place when you lie down.

I think some doctors examine you while you are standing up...

I have been extra uncomfortable this week, probably because I carried three 20 litre buckets of paint from B&Q to car and then from car up two flights of stairs at the weekend, my own fault!

I didn't have a rectocele but it was the uterine prolapse which caused the uncomfiness when the bowel was full. Mind you, after the hysterectomy, I still get that feeling and it's now down to weak vaginal walls. Can't win!!

No, I tried to discuss it with my GP, how I have to put a finger inside my vagina to help with a BM, and she just said that was quite common! I have found that things are better if I don't sit down too much at work, I tend to stand as much as possible and keep my pelvic floor muscles tight and it seems to be helping.

You really can't Taz can you.

When I do pelvic floor excercises my stomach muscles...well what there are left of them, move.
Get the feeling I'm not doing them right.

It is so horrible just being 'aware' of the whole area isn't it.

Yes it most certainly is.
Something you really never give another thought to until all of a sudden you become aware that it's just different in some way.

It feels dry and dragging, so hopefully the Vagifem might just deal with the dry feeling.....but I'm not dry, if that makes any sense at all..... ::)

You shouldn't get any movement in your stomach muscles or in your leg muscles. The info here is quite good although it is a pregnancy leaflet! http://www.nhs.uk/planners/pregnancycareplanner/documents/bandbf_pelvic_floor_women.pdf

It's important to do quick pull ups as well as the longer ones which you hold for so many seconds. This exercises both bands of muscle apparently. My regine is 15 quick pull ups followed by five longer holds each for the count of seven. I have to do these at least four times a day at the moment although the normal amount is ten times a day. Every one is different though which is why I reckon it would be worth your being referred to a specialised clinic where they can examine you and determine which type of exercises would suit you best.

I will ask Taz,
Just want to get the bowel exam out of the way first. I don't want the prolapse thing to get worse and if I need help then that's what I will do.

I know I have a fibroid sparkle....picked up on a scan a few years ago.

Why do our bodies suddenly feel the need to fall apart ....all if a sudden.

Chocolate needed I thinks and there is a walnut whip in the fridge.

Sounds like a prolapse to me, honeybun, sorry to say. As always, I agree with what taz2 says - and maybe when you return to Vagifem and get a regime of pelvic floor exercises going, you might feel a lot more comfortable. Hope so anyway.

Take care,
