Visiting Nick Panay
« on: August 27, 2015, 06:07:29 PM »

Hi

I am sorry Ella G I can't PM yet as I have not been a member for long enough.

Nick Panay will work with you to get you balanced and will not give up on you.

I have had my overies removed so I rely on HRT for all my hormones. I know my estrogen needs to be about 500 -600 to be symptom free. Obviously I have no hormones of my own to fluctuate.

It costs around £245 for a consultation with him but that's for as long as you need and you feel very well supported.

He has saved me!

Too far away for me....I'm in Scotland.

We should not have to go privately for treatment. It's so unfair...either you can't afford it or you are far too far away.

Dr Currie has a very affordable email service and gives comprehensive answers for £25.

Good treatement should neither depend on area or money.

I agree women should not have to pay to go privately - all this should be available on NHS - but if you do so Nick Panay is definitely the man (well one of them!).

Lots of us don't have the opportunity being 500 miles away.

Mind you Dr Currie is much nearer and I know who I would rather visit.

Yes I totally agree.

All women should have access to good Meno support without having to pay.

Sheer desperation drove me to see him, but I am sure he is not the only good doctor around. I spent a year just not getting anywhere.

Think it is just luck, I have not come across any NHS meno clinics where I live.

I have seen a meno consultant on the NHS. It hasn't been satisfactory. She has huge queues of women to see and is usually running an hour late.

When you finally get to see her she barely lets you speak. Instead she repeats the same information she mentioned last time. Three times now she has gone on and on about the importance of telling my daughter about how I am struggling with early ovarian failure and peri, so she can get proper treatment when the time comes.

I really get that. But THREE times now! And it's something that is nearly 40 years in the future for my daughter anyway. Instead I would really like to concentrate on getting ME sorted thanks.

When I finally get to speak she is too busy writing up my notes to really pay attention. Total length of appointment is never more than 8-9 mins.

If being on the Pill doesn't stabilise my dreadful mood swings and stop the dysphoria (never knew the horrible restless anxiety mixed with depression had an official name) I get, then I have decided to go and see Dr Annie Evans in Bristol.

I don't care what it costs. I can't waste anymore of myife feeling like this, treading along a knife edge, never knowing if I will wake up to the dysphoria, or at which point it will just fade into thin air (over lunch tomorrow? During the night? A week next Tuesday?).

It's no life.

I know.

It's desperation that leads to us seeking private help.

Getting balanced is very difficult for some of us.

All the best to those of you going private - it is on my list in the future too, just need to find someone closer to home.  I agree we should not have to do this and also agree to not wanting to feel like this for any more years.

Thank you GLR - I never heard of dysphoria either, sounds very much like me though.

interesting post Grangravy. will remember that too.

Well - re the not saying anything negative about specialists - I would take that with a pinch of salt (ie whatever happened on Mumsnet)!! I agree no-one should say anything libellous but I can't see a gynaecologist coming onto this forum and starting litigation against something that someone said.

We need to be be able to share information about this sort of thing and especially when women are paying good money so factual reporting of how a woman feels the appointment went and what was prescribed is so very helpful especially to some of those who are not able to attend private clinics and sometimes experience less than satisfactory treatment themselves.

Anything that is true cannot be defamatory or libellous, and there is nothing at the moment in the Forum Rules or Registration Agreement that says we cannot name or discuss treatment from specialists. Members always have the private lives section if they don't want their reports to be on the open forum - which is where I reported my visit to Annie Evans (positive of course  ;) )

I agree and if the facts are reported truthfully without resorting to personal attacks I don't see a problem.  It could be helpful.
