I wonder if I could ask for some advice from the forum. I am new, so a bit of background... I am 51 still having periods but they are erratic - every 50 days, then every 21 days, then a 40 day break etc, so planning holidays etc difficult. I had the occasional night sweats but nothing uncopable with. So went to the GP to see if I could go back on the pill effectively to regulate my periods which was my main issue. I had been on Microynon during my 20's and 30's, so thought that would be ideal. Was told though that risks too high and that she would put me on Cerelle - a progesteron only mini pill.
This was an absolute nightmare of headaches, depressive feelings (I had never had a hint of depression) and completely no libido. I stopped taking them after a month and then experienced the worst period with period pains and a really heavy flow that was similar to when I was 13/14! So I decided I would let nature takes it course with regard to my hormones and would rely on Northisterone for stopping my period if going on holiday.
We have recently returned from holiday and I noticed whilst on Northisterone that I felt fab - great libido, no headaches etc, and due to the uncertainty of my period I had taken Northisterone for 3 weeks (a week before my holiday and during my holiday) to delay my period. However, I now have intolerable night sweats at least 5/7 nights so returned to my doctor this week to see if she could recommend an HRT to alleviate the hot sweats.
She prescribed Prempak and after taking only one tablet I felt extremely poorly - disorientated, sleepy, complete lack of concentration, horrible bloating feeling etc. I have never had such an immediate reaction to taking medication and have not taken another.
The advice I wanted was whether any of you felt the same way after taking Prempak and if so did you continue with it and what your experience of taking Prempak was.
I feel now that I have messed my body around too much and should leave well alone, but wonder if there is an alternative you would recommend that I should seek from my doctor.
Sorry for long post - just a bit all over the place.
