Are your symptoms not the usual ones?

I'm not usually one to quote from the DM, but this article resonated with me and I think it may give some reassurance to others too. So many times I've thought 'but I've never had a hot flush so it can't be hormones' - these ladies' experiences shows just how varied the symptoms of menopause can be: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/health/article-2324019/Menopause-The-unexpected-signs-youre-hit-it.html

Thank you. This really is such important information! I had only really heard of irregular periods and hot flashes before I started reading up on perimenopause. When a woman in her 40s complains about certain symptoms, you'd think the doctors of today would at least CONSIDER the possibility that they may be hormone related??

Thanks Briony, although we logically know were going through peri/meno its good to read information from different sources that confirms what these hellish symptoms are....and don't even get me started on doctors!!!! and lack of information at this time of life.....there should be groups and leaflets in docs surgeries for sure x

I should have added an extra note - do not read the comments at the end of the article unless you want to be very angry. Particularly sad that some of the nastiest points appear to come from a woman  >:(

What gets me as well is that Doctors won't accept that the symptoms of menopause, sweats, anxiety, tiredness  etc continue for some women  quite a few years post menopause. I know there is nothing they can really offer but just an acknowledgement that  menopause is not always over in a couple of years would be nice. Instead they just make you feel you are imagining it. I sometimes wonder if some of those who comment that they haven't had any problems do go on to get symptoms later on but don't want to then admit it.

I think we should collaborate to write a book.  :)

I'll do the washing up - gone are the days when I took medical notes in shorthand  ;)

My symptoms have been:

In the 1990s (37-ish) sudden feelings of going to be sick - when out shopping I knew where every waste bin/loo was situated  :-\.  I once had to ask in a Chemist where the loo was as I was absolutely certain  :-X
panic would then set in
I was advised by NAPS to eat every 3 hours 24/7 to stop that blood sugar problem which cause the nausea: I carried snacks and Dextrose tablets everywhere as well as thick carrier bags

Followed by periods becoming irregularly with months between each sometimes …… then they stopped  :-*
After a few months of them stopping I began with what I called my 'evening glow' - my whole back would become wet but it was after I had taken my ADs and BBs.  This lasted for a while.  Because I was already taking the latter I think possible symptoms were eased.  I know that I've been lucky.

In March this year my belly dropped - lack of oestrogen probably.  Not put on any weight but now have a 'spare tyre'  >:(

An interesting article.

It took months and months before it even occurred to me that my bizarre symptoms might be hormonal related, because I'd never had a single hot flush and my periods were still regular albeit suddenly much lighter.

2 female GPs totally failed to join my dots and link my inexplicable anxiety, sudden insomnia, aching joints and episodes of very low mood to my hormones.

It was only after I stumbled across this site and pour my heart out and listed all my symptoms that lots of other posters immediately diagnosed me as being peri menopausal (had never seen the word before).

To add insult to injury my medical notes make MANY references to my issues with PMS and subsequent PND. According to my consultant my medical history made me a 'classic candidate' for peri menopausal anxiety/mood swings.

Yet I was disregarded out of hand because I 'was 10 years too young to even be thinking about the menopause'.

Once again, I could have written your post GRL! I too was saved mainly by forum members, not my GP. I hate to think how much money was wasted on pointless tests, MRIs, consultant visits etc for me when the answer was right before their eyes. I also suspect a high number of women are on ADs or diagnosed with CFS when in fact it's their hormones at fault.  :(

My consultant told me she is very concerned about the number of middle aged women pushed into taking ADs when really they need hormonal treatment.
