First or favourite car
« on: August 05, 2015, 08:19:26 PM »

My very first car was a classic racing green mini, one of the really old ones with sliding windows in the front....I loved that car.

My next one was bought simply because I thought it looked...ummm cool  ::)
A Datsun Sunny Coupe 120. ....I was not safe in that but it turned a few heads until it fell apart.

Favourite .....and why

I got my mini in 78. I spent all my money on it but it was worth it.

My son (now 34) learnt to drive in his little white mini.

Many years later , after replacing the engine and almost every part) sold that and bought a red one, then a maroon (special edition 30) , then another red one (currently waiting a refurb) and he drives another newly acquired white one(John Cooper special), so has gone full circle!
Can you tell he loves minis  ;D

He did the London to Brighton with his Dad several years ago and is planning to do it again next year, depending on the refurb

My first favourite was our camper van which I learnt to drive in!! And ten years ago I bought my first ever brand new car, a mini cooper, which is immaculate and I love it!  Son says it's not a mini though (traditionalist)   ::)

He is right though....it's not a mini....the clue is in the name  ;D

I do like the new ones but they are just not the same.

A true enthusiast. I want hubby to buy one and do it up but he is resisting unfortunately  :(

We lived in the US for a while and I had a Mustang GT convertible. I cried when it went, not just because I loved the car, but also because of what it represented - a life away from my mother. Returning the car meant I was not only leaving the place I was happiest in my entire life, but also that I was going to be living closer to her.

Mini Cooper S in British Racing Green was the 1 to go for!  A proper mini ……. DH's brother had one and we 4 travelled miles in it.  Another friend had a Healey ………. me in the back, the 2 lads in the front, lid down ……. took hours to get the knots out of my hair  ;D

We had 3 Ford Escorts, a Mitubishi Colt which fitted me like a glove  :-* followed by the Toyota: missed every one when we had to sell them ……….. we had an Escort each at 1 time but I was unable to drive his, couldn't get the seat pulled forwards enough  ::).  I learnt to drive in a mini with blocks under the back legs to lift me high enough.

If I had money it would be a Lambourghni in bright yellow with lilac colour seats and a Toy Boy to pull me out  ;)

My first car was a yellow Talbot Samba that I (very imaginatively!!) called Sam.

My favourite car, by a long way, was my beloved Discovery, George.  He was a black TD5 with quite a few 'toys' and I LOVED him!  He was a bit of a 'lump' to drive - had to be 'driven' rather than 'point and go', but if I could I'd have kept him forever.  When he was traded in for something 'smaller and more sensible' (DH's phrase, not mine!), DH had to take him - I just couldn't .... and I cried buckets as he drove away for the last time.  I've often said if I won the lottery I'd track him down and get him back!

But, in the real world, my current car (the newest shape Fiesta) is great - absolute dream to drive - and I'm very happy with him (Ziggy!).

my first car was my ex-husbands metro - it was dull grey and I totally hated it.

My fave out of many many cars since, was my Toyota Estema (sp?) like a big bus decorated with paw prints and could fit 6 dogs in no probs, I cried when it left to the big Toyota garage in the sky on the back of a tow truck.

This week I got another car, and I am getting quite keen - it is bright yellow, its a Diahatsu YRV Turbo also now decorated with paw prints etc, hoping it will last me a few more years as it is 11 year old so fingers crossed.

My first car was a Ford Capri 2 litre and I loved it ! I would love to do an old one up for weekends but I probably wouldn't be able to get up out of it now  ;D

I've posted this somewhere else before, but I just couldn't resist:

How do you get 4 elephants into a Mini?   2 in the front and 2 in the back.
How do you get 4 giraffes into a Mini?  You can't, because the elephants are there already..................... :)

Didn't get my first & only car until mid 90's. A lavender blue Clio. I loved that car! Washed it & polished it. Sold it to go on holiday to Cuba. All other cars have been hubby's.

So pleased to hear so many of you loved their minis.  My first car was a bright blue mini called 'Bluebell' - the old fashioned shape with slidy windows.  I had to be a bit of mechanic with this mini - always checking the water and oil etc. - I did love it though.
The other car I really loved was an early Nissan Micra 'Collette' - it was sooo reliable and I cried when I finally part exchanged it for the Nissan Sunny as I needed the bigger car because of having 2 small children and a dog.
Great thread.  DG x

My favourite car was a Mk II Golf GTI which'd had some attention from GTI Engineering. OH bought it from one of his work colleagues who'd had it as a company car (I believe times have changed now  ::)) At the time I was commuting 100 miles a day, the car was an absolute delight. The mechanic who worked on it most often was desperate to buy it but his wife decided............................. No!
