Different!!!!
« on: July 30, 2015, 07:22:33 PM »

My period was due last Saturday, a week to 10 days before i started to get the bloating feeling, random head aches, tiredness, you know the pressure the whole body feels, it got to the stage where i couldn't wait for it to come.
It arrived on the Sunday, finally relief, but so far it is not like a period at all, usually i am extremely heavy and have to use 3 sanitary towels at a time and have to change every hour or so, this one is hardly noticeable at all, (sorry if tmi) its just the occasional dark brown with bits of red and only when i wipe, don't get me wrong this is far better than what i normally get but is it right, can it slow down this quick, it has been a few years since i have had what you would call a normal period what with the heaviness and clots, but to go from that to this  ??? is this the norm ???

thanks Karen

Thank-you both,  Sparkle, its awful isn't it the bloating and waiting, i suppose i thought it would be like any other month, just cant believe how different it is, i can actually stand up and walk round like "normal", go to the shops, which i haven't been able to do for a long time at that time of the month, think i like it  ;D but i wont hold my breath that it will stay the same next month might be back to square one. Hope you get some relief soon.
Thanks Taz regarding the tmi, hormones eh! lol, it has been such a shock and every time i get up or go to the loo i expect Niagara Falls but nope, me being a bit dim thought it would tail off gradual, strange tho that i haven't had any hot sweats in the night i get them really bad that week normally but not had 1 so far strange, still getting flushes tho.

Yes happened to me. Went from a 'normal' period of medium to heavy flow for at least 5-6 days, to the very next month my period was very light (really just brown spotting with a few smears of fresh blood) and only lasted 3 days Max.

It was so light I didn't need to wear any sanitary protection during the night. Just unheard of. And my periods have been the same ever since.

Well spoke to soon,  :'( the extremely light period i had lasted another week, so two weeks in total, then the inevitable happened a normal period started last Monday and it has been the worst ever it has knocked me sick heavy is an understatement its been awful, just starting to feel like my normal self again, my question is looking at dates from when the light period started my next one is due this Sunday  ??? surely this wont happen!!!!! will it ??? should i take it from when the heavy one started. I don't think i can take another one so soon, got an extremely busy week got two big cakes to do for Saturday and don't think i will get through it all if i get all the aches, pains, and awful feelings.

When I had my last heavy episode my gp prescribed me Tranexamic acid.
After two days of being on them my bleeding stopped x

Hi Kazy, I'm going through the same at the moment.  Normal, heavy ish period last week which stopped dead on Friday. Been brown spotting since and now feel very pre menstrual again. This has happened twice before earlier this year with normal periods in between. Completely freaked me out too but I guess, with the normal periods in between the wonky ones, it's nothing "medical" just my hormones. Watch your iron levels though. When I get a super heavy or long period I take some ferritin and up my iron rich veg.

Hope this helps xx

I hate to tell you this but my last 3 periods have been similar to yours and yes I did get the next period straight away.  I bled for 3 weeks and had 1 week off before the next 3 week bleed started.  This month my period is a week late so maybe that was the final outburst so to speak.  You can only hope :)

Keep an eye on iron levels - I had a year or more of almost constant bleeding (very light most of the time) and wound up with very low ferritin. Felt like a new woman after ten days of ferrous sulphate.

I agree re the iron if you are having heavy bleeding.

I keep mine topped up through occasional use of a gentle herbal iron tonic (Floradix) despite my healthy diet - but if I was bleeding a lot I would definitely take some regularly - not as much as the recommended dose if your diet is good - but just adding that little bit extra - especially if like me, you eat a lot less than you used to due to age and slower metabolism.
