Meet the Maasai at Twycross Zoo!

Monday 27th – Friday 31st July – Meet the Maasai

"For five days, Twycross Zoo is playing host to the people of the Maasai.

"Having travelled to the UK from Kenya, we are honoured to welcome the Maasai people to Twycross Zoo so that our visitors can learn more about the Maasai way of life.

"At various times during the day, they will perform traditional dance and music, tell cultural stories and demonstrate their jewellery making."


Anxiety allowing I hope to go and meet ……… I want to know how many languages they speak, what they feel about conservation in general, how Safari trips affect their Life-style …… off to make a list!

Seeing giraffes at a Zoo this year got me wondering: has anyone been aware that a lorry passed whilst out and about has wild animals in it  :o after all, animals being transported between collections have to go in something  :D and elephants and giraffes aren't easy to hide  :P

Rothschilds are the rarest giraffes in the World, I have a copy of 'raising Daisy Rothschild' - what sticks in my memory is the fact that every morning they would wander across the lawn - put their necks into the bedroom and share the owners' tea!  This is bedrooms that they were built 18 feet high  :o.  The house is mock Tudor' style in Kenya.  Add to this their long eyelashes  :-*

Well, there's a lesson for the migrants then  ::) - don't climb onto a lorry parked at Calais or you might find a polar bear beneath  :o  ;D
