Why me? Don't know the HRT solution.
« on: July 15, 2015, 06:24:32 AM »

Hi Ladies,

I have been taking femeton 1/10 with an extra half tablet of oestrogen ( from an old pack every day )and this has been great. " days into taking femeston 2/10 and I have swelled up . Fingers fat and eyelids swollen and eye bags puffy. Ankles are puffy.I also feel teary again!! so is the dose too much? The 1/10 dose was great with the extra half! but how do I maintain that as I would have to have 6 packets and discard half of each of the extra packets (the progesterone bit ). What do I do? I can't have a puffy face and ankles every day. I am realy panicking .

That seems an extreme reaction.  I would hot foot it to a Pharmacist with everything I've used in the last 3/4 days!

I think CKLD is absolutely right.  Your symptoms sound like an allergic reaction to something and as you have simply upped the dose of something you were already taking then it is unlikely to be the HRT. Have you been bitten by an insect? Ask your chemist or get to see your GP for advice.

why did you change from what worked?

Sooner the doc's realise just upping our dose to next tablet is not the answer the better.

Can't your continue with the 1/10 and add a little estrogen gel as a top up?

Thanks ladies,
I was in complete melt down , and it was because of the new higher dose, I got an emergency appointment with the GP and she prescribed the 1/10 for me to be going on with. and gave me extra packets so I could cut the tablets in half an take an extra half on top which appears to be the perfect dose for me. I was panicky and felt awful, so I wont be taking the 2/10 again! I am wondering if there is a way of taking the extra oestrogen without having to only use half the  packet of tablets and discarding the combined phase .

Why didn't you ask the GP  :-\

Did the GP see the swelling you complained of and make any suggestion as to the cause?

Hi pepperminty

If your doc is happy for you to take half a tab extra of oestrogen and you don't mind paying for an extra prescription then the equivalent oestrogen only tablet is Zumenon - made by the same company with exactly the same ingredients (I've just looked them up!). However if you are only using half a tab from the extra packet of Femoston then that would last you the same length of time as a whole packet including the combi so provided your doc prescribes more than usual you shouldn;t have to pay any more - but I agree it is a waste - although you could keep them for the future maybe (perhaps they'll go out of date?!)?

Hope the swelling has subsided - that did sound extreme - having never had anything like that!

Thanks Hurdity,

sorry for my lateness of reply. That is great to know that my GP can prescribe zumenon. You are a fountain of knowledge!! That means he can give me a full pack to use which would last me 2 months if I split them in half. But if he is willing to provide me with 6 months of the 1/10 for the usual prescription cost of £16 then I may stop with that. It was a bit of a mare swelling like that! It could have been a coincidence but I am loathed to try again at the moment. I have started a new job and cannot take the risk of being unwell for work at present. I feel that I need to stick with what works after a shaky start. But one thing I have noticed is that in the last week my aches have come back and I don't know why that is, maybe my hormones are going astray again?
