Own progesterone kicking in again??
« on: July 10, 2015, 07:50:21 AM »

Hi all,

I have had very sore/heavy feeling boobs for at least a week before I needed to start using prog pessaries again, and then when I did start the pessaries, I only needed 5 before period began.  Then the period pain was so horrendous the first day, I nearly passed out (quite unusual for me), the blood was clotty and then the next day light and by day 4 nothing!

Anyone have an idea what might be going on here?  I wondered if my body had decided to have another go at producing progesterone itself, as my boobs were so uncomfortable?

I'd be glad of any thoughts about this,
Thanks so much

I think you are right - your own body decided to do it's own thing. My boobs turn into the most painful alien beings attached to my chest but only if I am producing my own progesterone. If I'm running on HRT only (25mcg Estradot and 10 Provera) I get none of that nonsense!

Your oestrogen levels may have risen?!! If your still peri meno then this can happen as your own hormones can be fluctuating in the background. I find that higher oestrogen can make my breasts tender and then when I go on to the progesterone they get really sore.  My withdrawal bleed tends to start after 8-9 days into progesterone. DG x

I think you probably had a high oestrogen blip, where you are not ovulating, but your oestrogen levels keep rising.  You can get bleeds when your oestrogen levels drop.  They tend to be redder and clottier, because the progesterone has not had an effect.

It's the oestrogen that affects my breasts too, I've found reducing my dose has helped. I do find by the end of the month I get a cumulative effect though and I've introduced a 5 day break (even though my doc said to take the BHRT every day). It's helped give my body a bit of rest and counteract any build up.

Thanks ladies - as I read on another post - during the perimenopause and menopause, expect the unexpected!
