Hair is falling out!!
« on: July 02, 2015, 08:52:15 PM »

Sorry, I'm new to all this, been on Elleste Duet for nearly a month now and my hair is shedding ALOT especially when I wash it, so I've tried to wash it only once a week. Just don't know what to do, majorly panicking, is this normal?  What have others done to help with this?   :'(

Hi Nicky, I am also on Elleste Duet 2mg and my hair is really shedding. I vacuum up huge amounts from the bedroom carpet and the amount I clip up now is significantly less than it was a while back. I am going to stop taking it when I get to the end of this packet.

Probably not what you want to hear, sorry!  :-\

I've got the same problem:-(
Is it the hrt ? I've read to go for the ones that are low androgens
I have been on elleste solo 2mg for 16 years and although my hair has definitely got thinner I joe notice increased loss at temples plus when I have no clothes on after I've dried my hair I still feel them falling down my back

I read from a post on here someone uses biosil and so I bought some, too early to tell a difference as I'm probably on my 4th week

Oh dear not good news.
So you think its the Norethisterone in Elleste Duet that is causing it? Do you know if Femoston contain this?

I had severe hair loss before I started HRT, I lost about 50% of my hair over a period of about 4 months  :-\ Thankfully although my hair is fine I have a lot of it so I still have enough if you know what I mean. I'm feeling very nervous now that I may lose more.

It's a horrible thing to happen isn't it? For me my long hair has been part of my femininity & one of the last things to be affected.  I have found switching products has helped the condition enormously as it had also become quite brittle & straw like. I've been using the Tigi range on the insistence of my daughter who's training to be a hairdresser & it has made a big difference  ;)

I developed lichen sclerosis which is believed to be an auto immune issue, i got rid of it pretty much alone after scouring the internet for advice & information, the dermatologist was a bit stumped by my rapid improvement. The internet, although a double edged sword, has proved a lifeline for me & forums like this have been a godsend. The support offered by complete strangers has amazed & humbled me.

Hi Nicky84

Just to add that here is the information about the different progestogens and whether they are androgenic or not ie close to testosterone - these are the ones that can cause hair loss:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/perimeno.php

Progestogens which can be used cyclically are of 3 main types:

Testosterone derived - Norgestrel, Norethisterone acetate and Levonorgestrel.
Less testosterone related - Medroxyprogesterone acetate(MPA).
Least testosterone related - Dydrogesterone and Micronised progesterone (Utrogestan).

Side effects are often experienced during the progestogen phase of treatment and can be reduced by using a product containing a different type or route of progestogen.

Thyroid issues can also cause this too.

If you scroll down from the link you will see all the different HRT types including tablets, and the progestogens they contain. You will see that of the combi tablet HRT types,  Femoston contains the one that is the closest to our own progesterone, and it seems to be well tolerated by many women.

I've found my hair thinning stopped since using HRT (Estrogel and Utrogestan), not just on my head but my pubes too! I was getting rather sparse down there.  It's not back to its full former glory yet, though that could be a blessing in disguise as it was always really really thick and hard to manage, it's quite normal now.

I only started taking HRT recently so am not sure if the hair loss was a result of my own natural hormones declining or a severe bout of stress I went through last year, either way it's good to see it slowly reversing.

All that said, I have been taking a number of different supplements (for other reasons) so I can't definitely say the reverse is down to the BHRT but I'd put my money on that one.

I had some hair loss before I realised I was peri menopausal and hoped HRT/pill would help. If anything, it got worse in the first three months, especially on the progesterone part and just after it. It really knocked my confidence.

.... However, now I'm 5 months in and the reverse is happening. It's better than it's been in years - I'm certainly no longer checking my shoulders every hour or so and too scared to put it in a pony tail!

On a different note, my  friend had hair loss which also included her eye brows (at the edges) and other body parts - GP immediately tested her thyroid and she was found to have a problem.
