New around here
« on: June 29, 2015, 12:03:53 PM »

hello there. I am fifty one shortly. I last had a period nearly two years ago now but I find I am still getting pms. I can't have hurt due to medical issues, but i have been prescribed clonidine for hot flushes. I also find I get really anxious at times and I cannot figure out what to do next. Would love to hear what others have done

Hi there. How are you getting on with clonidine? I was given it when I'd come off HRT cold turkey a few years back & didn't have much success. Now weaning myself off HRT, but getting some flushes. GP said they might try again, if necessary or increase my citalopram, which I take for anxiety.

Many on here suffer with anxiety to varying degrees. I get it, though relatively mild compared to many. It flares up occasionally & I use Rescue Remedy or similar.

The clondine is quite helpful during the night but not so much during the day. I am already on amitriptyline for migraine prevention but it doesn't do so well for anxiety. I feel like I have one problem after another so there is not much time I actually feel well.

Pity you aren't getting so much relief during daytime. I suppose it depends on frequency of flushes. They can be quite exhausting.

:welcomemm:  have you browsed the menus, top of screen?  Your own hormones will be up and down which may influence the effect of the Clondine.

Hi wendymother - welcome from me too.

Sometimes we have found that members have been advised that they are unable to use HRT due to medical problems but this is not always the case so if, when you are comfortable with us, you would like to share more about this you may find that HRT (should you want to take it) might be possible after all.

Taz x  :)

Hello again. The medical matters are a long time history of migraine, SVT's( heart problem) and a history of strokes in my parents, and a high cholesterol. I can kinda see their point but I do feel a bit unsupported by them.

Sometimes PMS can be eased by eating every 3 hours 24/7, 52/12.

Maybe a history of stroke in your parents isn't relevant and do you mean your cholesterol is high?  I have a high reading but as I'm doing everything 'right' my GP doesn't consider that I need statins.  There is an e-mail to Dr Currie available here, more details of how and the cost above.  Might be worth thinking about if your GP is less than knowledgeable.
