cooking celeriac

we have never tried celeriac  so have bought one today to try, is it just boiled and mashed like potatoes  :-\  kerrie

Thats the way I've treat it.
I usually mash it with potatoes, about a 50/50 mixture, with butter and pepper.
BTW is a bit tough to peel, I slice the outer part off with a large kitchen knife rather than destroy a peeler.

Treat it like a turnip, it takes quite a while to cook.

honeybun   ;D  everyone has different tastes, not done it tonight but will let you know when we try it, i just thought that as we both like celery we might like it, but we will see  :)

Doesn't taste like celery though.

They used to feed it to cattle until it became popular  ;D

Thought you were having it tonight or I would have  :-\  ;D

I have tried it, and liked it, but can't remember what we had it with for the life of me........
OH thinks it may have been smoked haddock, ok that sounds feasible but then he blew it and said he thought a creamy sauce was involved.
Er No - parsley sauce possibly, but unlikely

BTW - The peeling/carving of raw celeriac with carving knife involved the use of OH

i wont tell himself that its cattle feed till he trys it  ;D  i have heard that its really hard to peel, will give it a try anyway   :)

celery - it's a thick root of a similar veg..  We slice it thinly, wash it in a colander and add it raw to salad!

Not a lot, it tastes a bit nutty with maybe a little hint of celery.

nutty, chewy oh heck, i was imagining smooth and creamy like mashed spud but tasting of celery, we will see  :)
