Can't seem to shake this anxiety off!
« on: June 14, 2015, 09:27:28 AM »

Hi ladies
Sorry to bother you all again, two weeks ago everything got on top of me and my anxiety and upset tummy kicked in again. I can't seem to shake it off and I'm worried it will get worse and I'll end up in another nasty depression/ breakdown and it really scares me.
I thought I'd pick up after my period but I haven't, could it be my AD's aren't as effective or maybe my HRT? I'm worried I'll have to see the doctor again and that they suggest seeing the councillor as I've had lots of 'talking therapy' in the past and to be honest I don't find it makes that much difference.
Has anyone got and tips?
Thanks
Shellb

Sorry you are feeling so low,it's horrid isn't it  :-\

Maybe if you've been on your current ADs awhile they aren't as effective anymore so perhaps discuss a possible change with your Dr,sometimes the body gets use to the medication. My HRT was fine for 5years then needed changing as I got further along the meno journey. Hope you pick up soon    :foryou:

Sorry to hear you are feeling so anxious,  it's a dark horrible place.  I suffer from anxiety and depression and more so this year since complications following surgery.  I have also had talking therapy and I can't say it helps much either - in fact the woman I currently see seems to have ore problems and issues than me!  I am on fluoxetine and have recently increased to 40 from 20mg.  I think it is helping .  I also try and not get too tired or commit to things I know will stress me out but it's not easy I know.  I have also been using meditation apps (Glenn Harrold is good) and this really helps me get off to and stay asleep.
I hope you find some relief soon - this forum has been a great help to me in difficukt times so keep posting if it helps you x

Aw sending hugs Shelib - its hard isn't it?

I was trawling around the Internet yesterday evening looking for more information on recovering from a nervous breakdown as well as information on managing anxiety - here are a few links that might help:

http://anxietynomore.co.uk/

http://pranajournal.com/about/confession/

... there's a few - I've found a few more but perhaps reading one of these will help a bit.

Hope you feel better soon . Talking therapies don't help me either and only seem to make me more anxious . They tend to bring things to the fore .  I would look at increasing your anti depressant with your doctors approval . Thinking of you . x

Just to say that if the therapist is talking about her issues and problems then she isn't being very professional - the therapeutic time should be devoted to discussion of the client's issues and problems (ie yours!) and not the therapist's.  If it's possible, I would look into switching therapist's if you can - talking therapy can help if it's done by someone who is skilled and professional but it's finding someone good that can be challenging (I had a number of poor therapy experiences before I found somebody who was more skillful).

Therapists who undergo training have to talk through their problems with a qualified practioner as part of the Course.  That way they don't turn the client's problems into 'I had that' or 'I understand because that is what happened to me' scenarios.  They 'get it out' first.

I can't remember which medication you take but how about upping the dosage for 5 days to see if you get any relief, it may be that your need more of the drug ?  If my brain feels low for more than 3 days I do that: I take 5mg Cipralex (I think  :-\) at night and 5mg in the morning, if I begin to feel ill I up the dosage at night.  Usually after 5 days my brain gets the support it needs.

There are several other drugs, i.e. Valium, to take on an as-necessary basis.  You could ask your GP for a short course - because I know my emergency drug works I don't need to rely on it, as soon as I feel over-whelmed I swallow 1 pill and within 20-40 mins. I begin to feel calmer.  It does make me sleep sometimes but that gives the drug time to work and my gut a rest from that churning.

have a )))Shellb((( and it really is NO 'bother' to walk beside you!

I truly feel for you Shelllb, it's difficult to get away from anxiety when it gets as bad as that....I too have had a bad bout and now struggling with IBS.

I hate taking meds and tried to be stubborn and not touch my wee stash of diazepam 2mg and have landed with a bad bout of anxiety/insomnia then upset tummy so I know how you feel.

I was at the doc on Tuesday and she thinks the anxiety has upset the balance of acid in my tummy and sort of gave me a telling off for letting it get to a height where it's affected me physically.

Next time, I'm taking my wee stash until it subsides. Iv had a lesson this time.

Do you not have bets blockers or diazepam for when your anxiety peaks too high? Xx

I'm getting better with the med thing I have CLKD....your absolutely right.

I take my thyroxine and HRT no bother but the AD's and anxiety meds I have a huge block with them but as I'm getting older, Iv had to have a strong talk to myself about it and I'm going to accept that I need it and not let it get as bad as that again....EVER. Pinky promise xx

It took me a few months to accept ………. now I and DH have a Life together again unless the anxiety strikes.  I try to take what my GP prescribes because I need his support …….. at least when I have told him that I 'tried' he can work with me until we find something that works (which works  :-\ ? )  ;)

If you feel a negative thought stand still, deep breaths, legs slightly apart …..

Once the meds work Renee, you'll be more relaxed about taking them  ;)

Good for you Shellb, can't be any worse can it. We will get there in the end, I like to think of all the nice things that's happened in my life as there's been a lot of bad stuff, but I believe good always defeats the bad. ❤️

CLKD....can you please post a wee motivational speech on here every day. Your a tonic 💕
