Utrogestan query
« on: May 10, 2015, 03:53:23 PM »

I am on a 25 day out of 28 on Utrogestan regime as it suits me better than the 1-14 days. Problem is I will be taking the last one before a three day break tonight. I always feel horrible either during or just after the break and it lasts at least week. Next weekend I am travelling with my daughter where she is competing in a National gymnastic competition and can't afford to be unwell for it. Is it ok to carry on with the Utrogestan for an extra week or extra cycle to avoid the dip? Is it safe to do that? Help would be welcome  :)

Firstly - hope the trip is successful!

Secondly - can't help with your query  ::)

3rdly - you could ask a Pharmacist tomorrow?

Surely you have chemist shops in your nearest town?

Don't some ladies on here have longer periods (as in time not bleeds) on utrogestan before stopping for a bleed ?

'If' that's the case, you can I'd have thought
But PLEASE wait for someone with experience to answer !

Good luck

I really can't see it would hurt. Some of our ladies have a long cycle. As I said on someone else's topic, most people who used birth control used to jiggle it to make sure you didn't have a bleed over holidays.
I wouldn't do it too often but a one off should be just fine.

Good luck to your daughter.

That would be fine - you can use utrogestan every day if you chose to!!

Im on the same but I do a loong cycle i.e. I use estrogen only for 10 weeks then add in utrogeston for last 12 days so only get a bleed once every 12 weeks so you would be fine to do it this once.I go this long because my specialist will do regular linning scans.

Taking utrogestan ie progesterone for longer and delaying the bleed in this way is not what is normally understand by having a long cycle. The long cycle is as dazned and I do - ie staying on oestrogen for longer to minimise the time on progesterone. That is the regime that needs careful monitoring, not what you are suggesting, because the endometrium ( womb lining) can build up too much if on oestrogen only for too long.

As Suzyq says you can use utrogestan every day. The point is that Utrogestan - ie progesterone, both changes the lining from proliferative ( growing) which it does on oestrogen, to "secretory" where it changes in structure ready for implantation with fertilised egg and get ready for pregnancy. While you are on the progesterone phase it also stops oestrogen from thikcening the lining any more so it is perfectly safe to carry on taking it.

What I would say though, is that if you are still having a regular cycle and were having heavy bleeds before starting HRT, you may well get breakthrough bleeding at the time you would have had your period anyway - because your own progesterone levels (produced after ovulation by the developing egg) will fall when the egg is not fertilised - thus triggering a bleed (which should be lighter though). Oestrogen in HRT is not high enough to prevent ovulation.

I'm just saying you may not necessarily stop all of the horrible feelings - but may prevent the extreme part of progesterone withdrawal symptoms you have experienced?

Thank you all, I will try continuing the Utrogestan for now but not sure when to take a break? Should i do another full 25 days? Am having slight bleed now anyway so not hugely worried.
Thank you for best wishes for daughter. I have just finishes crystalling three beautiful leotards imported especially from Russia! Very exciting!
You are all so good at advising, I appreciate it xxx

You can carry on for another 25 days or take a break whenever you want. I used continuously with no break - that's how I was told to do it!! Enjoy your time with your daughter!!!

As Suzyq says you can take a break when you want but it probably depends on how far the 3 day break and your bleed is synchronised with your underlying cycle and how strong this is.

I would just carry on taking it until after the weekend - depending on when you are coming back.  So - if you are coming home on Sunday - then start the 3 day break on Sunday night. Maybe you will get a bit out of sync but not much?

Good luck for your daughter in the competition - how exciting! Do let us know how she gets on!  :)

Hello there

My consultant told me she normally advises women to take utrogestan very day, without a three day break. I don't know why, and his may not be for every woman as very woman is different - but it does suggest that there's nothing 'dangerous' about not taking a break at least in the short term.

Good luck!

Thank you all
Carried on with Utrogestan and so far have avoided a major dip , only mild nausea and dizziness. I could feel a change in emotion and uneasy stomach at the same time that I'm normally quite unwell but it was more manageable. Not sure what to do next month now. Had a slight bleed anyway so not particularly worried about that. Am at a meno clinic next month so will question them about it.

Great news re gymnastic competion, my daughter got silver medal in acrobatic gymnastics, second place in Britain after a hard competition! Proud Mum moment here!  ;D
We went to the gymnastic competition at the weekend, managed well, though struggled with eating as couldn't leave the arena and get food easily so felt a sickly blood sugar drop quite badly. Relieved to have got there and supported my girl.
Thanks for the support xxx

Wow jedigirl - fantastic news - brilliant daughter :medal: and very proud mum!  :hapij:

I have sudden low blood sugar problems (shaky and sweats) sometimes so I always carry a muesli bar in my handbag for occasions like that so that I'm not caught out as it's quite unpleasant.
