Hi everyone I posted November time I went to see Gp with bad Peri symptoms, she suggested taking prempac c and as I was already taking Micronor said to take the two. I wasn't happy about the idea and said at the time is it right to take both? Surely doubling up on progesterone, no don't worry she said it will be fine. At the same time I was prescribed vitamin d. As I had had a full set of blood tests done (one bad symptom of mine is chronic fatigue). The blood tests had shown a deficiency, I did ask on here about the prempac and Micronor combo and lots of you lovely ladies agreed with me that it didn't seem right... Anyway typical how things go..my period didn't arrive for about eight weeks, but after taking the vid D I felt amazing! For two whole months I had me back it was WONDERFUL.. I decided not to take the HRT... To cut a long story short. It was a blip, symptoms back worse than ever. A month ago I saw a different GP who said ooo noo you can't take prempac C and Micronor oooo you have a horrendous list of syptoms. But let's check everything and send you for a scan. in the time since I saw GP and actually had scan I have had one period seven days full on, seven days off, 21 days on, two weeks off and finishing Last Sunday seven days on again..... The day after scan I phoned to try and arrange an appointment to see last GP I was told no appointments in May....but, I could telephone for my results in two weeks...
I am so tired .....so so tired...I have so much to do and there is nothing...I just feel everything is taking so long and I feel so dreadful....does everyone have to fight and wait and fight...my periods had been getting further apart so the past couple of months has come as a bit of a shock.
Also libido gone...partner quite opposite, I try so hard...but again there is nothing in me not a spark I am so  :'(

Hi Shelby - this all sounds so typical for the peri meno stage and it's horrid.  Hormones fluctuating and erratic periods etc are all very draining. I would get to see your GP as soon as possible - if you phone in and say you have some unexplained bleeding then they should fit you in quickly. I'd ask for a referral to a meno click if there is one near you. 2 weeks to get your blood result back!!!! Ask for a telephone consult and ask if you should stop the Micronor and start the HRT? You will need to use other contraceptive though e.g. condoms. You could have a Mirena fitted and then just add some oestrogen as this takes care of contraception as well - if you have been using Micronor then the Mirena might suit you well.

Your poor body has had all these hormones thrown at it ,its no wonder you feel shell shocked !

Yes some of us do have to fight gps to get anywhere Im afraid, but some have good ones.I dont, although Ive never had to wait a whole mmonth for appointment !
Firstly I personally would wait and see results of scan before deciding my next course of action. Prempak c is a cheap old type hrt there are much kinder, bio identical hrt to be had so I would be looking to address that. At least you know that you will get support on here. Hope you get some results soon.

Sadly it will get harder and harder to see our GPs as lots are due to retire and Trainees simply aren't going into Practice.

You've been through the wringer a bit, shouldn't be necessary ……. hopefully your current GP will be supportive!

Aww thank you so much for responding xxxxx
I think I HAVE found a good understanding GP unfortunately trying to get an appointment with her does seem almost impossible...I have to confess it took the wind out of me a bit when the receptionist said on May 1 St that this particular GP had no appointments in May, so I didn't actually make an appointment but left it that I will telephone for my results in the hope of maybe getting a telephone consultation. I hope I have done the right thing. I don't always feel like I am thinking clearly at the moment.
This Gp did suggest that if my scan results were clear she would recommend the Mirena coil and oestrogen gel...at the time I was very unsure of the idea of the coil. But I would literally do anything now ....
I am due to telephone the surgery the Middle of next week so fingers crossed that finally I can make some progress.. Thank you all for reading and responding, it made me cry , stupid I know, but sometimes I feel so alone in all this..xxxx

Hi Shelby you are not alone here,

well done so far! I would make an appointment in advance , if you feel seeing your GP is better than a telephone consultation. You can always cancel if you don't need it. The mirena works well for many women. If I doesn't suit they can easily take it out. My friend had one and she was fine. It does help with the bleeding . Make sure you eat well and maybe take an iron tonic , I think it's called floradix? I know what you mean about not thinking clearly , it's so hard when your tired and your hormones are yo-yoing. Be kind to yourself , don't overdo it and hopefully you will be feeling better soon.

At my GPs, they have two surgeries so it is not unusual to have to wait at least 3 weeks to see a particular doctor.  If they are part time, it can be longer.  I can go online to book appointments and sometimes, they have two surgeries in a week, then two the next week, then none for a month or more.

I would make the appointment, then when you get the results, it is there if you need it, or you can cancel.  Someone will be glad of it.

Shelby hang on in there - it's a real crapshoot with GP's - the first one I had put me on a HRT med which was awful for me and I stuck it out for a month and then switched practices and now have a fantastic GP who changed my HRT and I feel so great at the moment - 10 days in on my new meds and I feel so so good.

I've read some real horror stories on this board with GP's so you aren't on your own - and it's totally normal to feel crap when faced with a situation like this - so know that you're not on your own.

If you can't afford to go private, see how the GP consult goes and then take it from there.

And if you're able to focus sufficiently in the meantime, look into making some dietary changes to see whether they might help. I say this because I've been requesting books on the menopause since all this blew up with me and the library staff have been working overtime as a result(!) - I think I've got 10 requests in at the moment!

But a lot of the books I have read so far all mention the value of making dietary changes, exercising and relaxation exercises.  If you feel like shit it can be hard to make changes - and for most of April I felt bloody awful on the HRT I was on.  But I did make some dietary changes and I really feel that they have helped me a bit. So, if you're up to it, it's worth reading around and seeing whether there's anything you can do in the interim period while you're waiting to see the GP.

Things that I'm doing diet wise:

1. I've given up all caffiene and tannine - so I only drink herbal tea - camomile, peppermint, ginger and nettle.

2. I take 2 tsp of flax seed oil every day.

3. I take a multivitamin every day.

4. I take an acidophilus pill every day (I started doing this because my bowels were messed up by the old HRT meds and I had constant diarrhea and I thought it might help them - changing my HRT meds has actually helped but I'm still taking this pill anyway!).

5. I eat more soy foods - so soy yogurt and tofu.

6. I eat more often - so snacks between meals - and I eat more protein too.

7. I've completely cut out sugar (aside from eating fruit which has natural fructose in it).

8. I've upped my fruit and vegetable intake.

9. I eat complex carbohydrates - porridge for breakfast, wholemeal bread for sarnies and brown rice or brown pasta with my main meals.

10. I eat oily fish twice a week (tinned mackerel and tinned salmon).

11. The proteins I eat are fish, chicken, lentils, beans, cheese and nuts.

I found this book helpful: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Must-My-Hormones-Bio-identical-Nutrition/dp/0718154304/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1271110287&sr=8-1

Exercise wise I've only just started to get my energy fully back. I go for daily walks a lot at the moment which helps. But I've also done yoga and took an aquafit class this week. I also have a long standing meditation practice.

However if you're feeling shitty then exercise can be challenging. When I felt at my absolute worst I used to do a lot of relaxation exercises - I had a CD and did a body scan exercise which really helped.

Good luck and hang on in there,

Hugs xxx

I can totally relate to how you are feeling, as I too am suffering the most debilitating tiredness, along with a myriad of symptoms.  The worst being sore boobs at the moment and periods totally out of whack!  This really has been a rough road thus far, with the odd good times, but they are rare.  Hope you get it all under control, in fact I hope we all do!!

Greenfields, so glad to hear you are feeling better  :) I've just finished my 4th week on HRT and I have felt so much better for the last 7-8 days.

Shelby - I know just how you feel. Your fluctuating hormones make you feel absolutely wretched. I know. I was so low and anxious that I couldn't even engage with my own children. Couldn't even bring myself to hug them. Like you, I tried high dosage Vit D and felt better for a few weeks, but it all came crashing down.

But you are going to feel better. This can be sorted out. Make that appointment and meanwhile keep posting on here so we can hold your hand and offer support.

Hello once again ladies xx

Thank you so much for your replies it means so much xx

So an update, apparently the scan has showed up fibroids! I am currently waiting for a phone consultaion with a GP the one who was foi g to prescribe both the prempac and Micronor ..so not having to much confidence with her... However the lady I spoke to yesterday said they were discussing whether or not to refer me to a gyno .... So now am I peri/meno or is it the fibroids causing all my problems .... One step forward and one back or so it seems ..

Shelby - If you have fibroids - which is very common - then having the Mirena could be a good option as it tends to shrink the fibroids and will eventually stop you having bleeds at all.  You will then be able to add some oestrogen in gel/patch/pill form to deal with any meno symptoms like flushes etc.
The Mirena usually means less progesterone is absorbed into the system so you get fewer side effects or any side effects often subside after the first few weeks or months.
Gynaes are very keen on Mirenas these days as they can be a very good option for many reasons - I would seriously consider this as it may sort out your problems.  DG x
