Advice re HRT side effects
«
on:
May 03, 2015, 11:38:37 AM »
Hi
Having been advised by my Gyne Consultant and My GP I have decided to bite the bullet and try a combined oral HRT tablet called Angeliqe.
It is only day 4 but although no hot sweats, I have a few new side effects which are: increase in dizziness esp when walking, a little breathless and nervier in the mornings. I felt well in the early evening.
My question is - are these symptoms common and will they improve?? I sometimes think I don't give the HRT enough time to settle, as I do panic at every new symptom
Many thanks

Those symptoms don't really sound typical side effects from the HRT. They sound 'anxiety' related. Do you practise Mindful Meditation? I've been getting real pain and problems in my back and hips and I've been referred for an endoscopy for the discomfort I'm getting in my abdomen - so I'm feeling really rough at the moment and the meditation is really helping me to cope. How are you anxiety levels? I get queasy tummy, shaking limbs, slight feeling of being light-headed
…… if you are able to stick with the new regime, give it a whirl. I get breathless if I carry extra water
it's almost like being asthmatic!

If it gets too bad then contact your doc/nurse for advise - but if you can, then try them for a week or two to see if things improve.
What time of day do you take your tablet? maybe worth taking it a different time if you feel well in the early evening.

Maybe you are getting anxious about taking/trying hrt ,try to think positively, easier said than done I know. Also try to bear in mind these things take time to work unfortunately and take time to adjust to . Hope it settles soon for you.

Thanks Ladies,
I am anxious. I have tried many different HRT preperations (had problems with most of them) that I anticipate something will go wrong..........
I appear to be waiting for every new symptom. I will carry on and see what happens
I will keep you posted

Oh Warwick - sorry you aren't feeling good.
But HRT, well all medication, can take time to work and settle down.
It would be good if you can give the tablets a few months fair trial.
If things really get too horrific then you can stop them.
See how it goes

I do hope this works for you warwick after all the different types you've tried. Did your body not settle with the patches in the end?

I haven't had the side effects you describe? Instead I have had a headache every day for the last 5 days which is also since I started to feel better.
So the HRT patch has removed myow mood and anxiety, but I get a sharp headache instead. Oh well, at least Anadun Extra sorts it out.
Your symptoms sound more anxiety related, rather than HRT?

Thank you for your replies.
Hurdity Estradot 50 made me have a weired head feeling. Everol 50 were better but I found after 2 full days I got break through symptoms, it may be I needed the 75 patch.
To be honest I really hope this works as I must admit I like the idea of taking 1 pill every day. It's day 7 and I feel ok............ still waiting for every symptom in the book to raise its ugly head.
Thank goodness for this site

Oh I was the same - every new AD I tried I feared it would make me feel worse ………. hey ho! I survived and eventually my Very Good GP found something which kind of worked even though I feel hung-over sometimes
I have a system for anxiety : 1-5 1 being low, 5 being when I need to grab the extra medication.

I had side effects with both HRT meds I tried. However the numerous extreme side effects I had with the first med I tried (Nuvelle Continuous) never went away even after a month on it - and that was a red flag for me. The second HRT (Evorel 50 patches and 100mg Utrogestan orally) has worked a lot better. I had side effects at beginning but 11 days in I'm a lot lot better.
One thing I found when I was anxious first thing in the morning was to eat breakfast straight away - and it helped. I think the anxiety was linked to my blood sugar level? Also, I now eat more - I eat snacks in between meals and I eat a lot of protein - and that has helped as well.
I would see the Dr if the breathlessness doesn't clear up - give them a call to check this is okay - and then see how it goes after you've taken it a week. I keep a detailed journal of myself - what I eat, sleep, how I feel - I basically feel like a lab rat! But it has helped me identify side effects and some patterns.
Good luck - sending hugs xxx

Hi
Just an update and looking for your advice pleeeease.
I am on day 11 of Angeliq and in some ways have noted a little improvement esp with the vertgo I have suffered for several years. However I continue to feel a little breathless, kind of having to take a deep breath. I have read this is a side effect of Angeliq.
Not sure weather to stop or carry on with the medication. Any thought?
?

Hi needing to take deep breaths or feeling short of breath is also a symptom of anxiety, could this be the case? Look up some deep breathing techniques they really help . Its still early days yet for you to adjust . You still might be " looking " for things as you said you were anxious before you started. Try to do something to address this like meditation, mindful thinking rather than over thinking, believe me I know its easier said than do ! As you have trouble before with hrt I think you could be pre empting this one maybe.

Yep, we need to think about our breathing sometimes. It is very easy to start breathing very shallowly when anxious or in pain so we don't get enough oxygen and start to feel dizzy and out of breath. You need to think about breathing right down through the stomach and expanding the ribcage. Mindful meditation can really help with this. DG x
