hi all, does anyone prewash salad as in lettuce onions radish etc and store in containers in the fridge ? just been standing in the kitchen preparing salad to go with chicken for tea and as  i have sciatica again my leg was throbbing and i wondered how salad kept if i prepared it before hand    kerrie

I don't, Kerrieann, but I do often take a tray through to wherever we're sitting and cut up the veg - for cooking or for salad - from the comfort of an armchair!

Yes I do....and store it in a Tupperware container.....heck that ages me 

If my son is visiting I don't need to store any salad as I'm sure he was a rabbit in another life.

I know that they say pre washed doesn't need washing....but.....don't read if you don't wash your salad before use.
In one of my salad bags I found the biggest moth I have ever seen...it was horrible, so now I wash and then spin to dry and store what I'm not using. If it has tomatoes and cucumber in it will last till the next day.

Yep, never looked at a bag of salad leaves in quite the same way since then.  Did you read what's happening in Spain with immigrant workers picking salads.....I'm growing my own.

Mind you that's nothing compared to what I got in a tin of corned beef

Yes what was it Honeyb??  I found a caterpiller in a bar of whole nut chocolate. It was from a Warehouse or Cocoa Moth that lays it's eggs in the nuts apparently. Quite common. They sent me ten bars to compensate. Didn't feel like eating them at first... but then...after careful inspection I decided to go for it.

I think I saw something recently saying that all salad should be washed, including that which says it has already been washed. Can't remember the exact instances but there have been cases of food poisoning.

Yes you're right Limpy. I had campylobacter food poisoning a while ago and the first thing the doctor asked was whether I had eaten salad in a restaurant/pub/cafe as they do often use the pre-washed product. I remember being so depressed when i saw that about bags of pre-washed salad Taz.
Though, I would imagine salad that has been prepared at home would be fine if kept in a self seal bag / tupperware box and put in the fridge straight away. It would probably do through fewer temperature cycles and should have less chance of contamination.

The immigrant workers are not being provided with proper loos so they go out in the salad fields and 

The corned beef....wasn't nice. They make it from bits and bobs of sort of left overs including cows cheeks. Only trouble is cows have hairs on the inside of their cheeks. Guess what bit I got. Yep a big chunk of black bristly hairy skin....oh I nearly had a fit.

I got quite a bit of compensation for that and haven't eaten corned beef since. You could have used this thing as a pot scrubber.

I rarely have salad when I'm out or home made soup. Mind you having trained and worked as a chef many moons ago I know what happens and it really puts you off  . I'd rather make my own to be honest.
