Anyone else feel better on prog' part of sequi?
« on: April 30, 2015, 10:49:34 AM »

Only just started HRT so only had one 12 day cycle of Utrogestan, so far. Have had my withdrawl bleed and now just wearing my oestrogen patch.

But very perversely I definitely felt better on the Utrogestan phase. Calmer. Sleep much better. Felt a bit tired during the day but that was absolutely fine with me, so long as the anxiety/low mood disappeared (which it did). On the Utro phase I had 7 straight days of feeling great and like 'me' again  :)

But since my bleed started last Saturday and I've just been wearing my patch I haven't felt 'right' at all. Feel clearer headed, but wired and anxious. Can't feel any pleasure in anything. Sleep has been crap, too. Also more headaches than normal  >:(

This is so typical of me. Suffered with PMS all my life. Suffered with PND. Reacted badly to the Mirena. So for me, progesterone was just one step down from weed killer. Turns out that my peri menopuase body now really likes it  ::)

Was wondering if anyone else on here feels the same? And if they transferred to a combined HRT as a result?

When I started my meno journey I was put on Femoston 1/10 and definitely felt better during the progesterone part of the pack.  From various posts I've read on here it is one of the kinder ones though....I'm now on the conti 1/5 so getting a little bit every day and have had no problems, in fact I generally feel pretty good and a bit of a fraud for coming on here ;)

Glad you feel much better greyhoundgal.

Did you still suffer with mood swings and insomnia when you were on the Femostan 1/10? And can I ask were you still having periods when you started on the conti 1/5.

And don't feel a fraud for posting. It's really good to hear from women who are enjoying life again on HRT. I wish more women like you would post, but then if they're doing fine on HRT they probably never find their way here.

Same with women who have come out the other side of menopause and feel happy and 'normal' again. Would love to hear from them too  :)

Hi GypsyRoseLee

Nope, my mood wings stopped almost as soon as I started the Femoston 1/10.  I was still getting a withdrawal bleed each month (with an odd exception) but towards the end they were getting lighter and shorter which is when my nurse thought I could swap over.  I had one bleed in the first month of the tablets but that was at the time I would have had one had I stayed on the 1/10 and nothing since.  I can't even begin to tell you how liberating it is not to have to deal with it every month, no more trying to plan weekends away or holidays around it and one less thing to throw in the shopping trolley each month  ;)

Aw, thanks for reassuring me - I do read all the posts and it makes my heart go out to a lot of the ladies on here that are really suffering but I tend to only post if something is relevant to me or I think it will help someone else  :)

Hi gypsyroselee,
I always felt better on progesterone than on estragen alone. I now take Utrogestan for 25 days of my cycle and still suffer when I stop for the three days. I will probably look into taking it continuously but am still peri. Maybe you would benefit from 25 days too? Xxx

Jedigirl - you probably have read my other post ...I agree with you in that I too feel better on progesterone. I tried a couple of months stopping for 3 days (25-28) but felt low on those days. Now going back to continuous utrogestan. Can't wait to feel myself again xx

Hi jedigirl. I am actually feeling so much better these last two days, since my bleed finished, even though just on oestrogen phase.

But this is just how I was pre HRT. Always felt worst in first day of period through until a couple of days after my period finished.

I have slept much better these last 2 nights too. I will be interested to see how I feel again on the Utro next week? See my consultant in 2 weeks to will ask her whether I need a higher dose if oestrogens to stop me dipping during my withdrawal bleed, or whether she would recommend 25 days of Utro instead?

I go on holiday in 3 weeks and the timing couldn't be worse. My bleed won't quite have finished when we fly, so it's likely my anxiety will spoil the first couple if days of our hiday.

I don't know anything really about bleeds anymore but when I had a uterus and my periods were very heavy my gps used to say I can carry on without a break if I had a holiday/function etc

Can't that be done during this phase too ?
Just a thought

Thanks Annie. I'm not sure either Annie. Back when I used to take the Pill I sometimes used to run two packs together so I wouldn't have a period at an inconvenient time.

I was thinking of maybe starting my Utro 3 days early, which would mean I was 2 days post bleed when we fly so I 'should' be starting to feel much better, mood wise. We're only going away for 8 days so don't want the first 2 days spoilt due to low mood and anxiety.

I see my consultant in 2 weeks so will ask her advice. It might just be that I need a higher dose patch to combat that horrible dip I get during my bleed and for a couple of days afterwards?

I feel as right as rain today, and have done since Thursday evening. Yet at the start of the week I felt dreadful. Very low, anxious and unable to sleep.

Back before this peri adventure, when I read that mood swings could cause problems during menopause I innocently thought a mood swing was just swinging between feeling 'normal' to feeling 'a bit fed up'. What did I know, eh?

My mood can swing from feeling very cheerful and optimistic, to the depths of despair (and I'm really not exaggerating) in less than 12 hours.
