Does anyone else suffer with racing thoughts keeping them awake at night?  I have recently started taking vitamin D tablets and don't know if it is that or hormones causing it.

Sometimes I just can't seem to switch off. It's murder! I was told it was most likely anxiety which causes it.

Mine start the second I wake up.  they used to keep me awake but since being put on a beta blocker for anxiety I go to sleep better now.  I think it is to do with hormones and anxiety but it is impossible to relax and switch them off.

It can be all or nothing - I sleep OK even when dreaming; or I wake and the mind starts - usually about chores I should have tackled by chose not to, or people I have been angry with over the years, or guilt, or about the mess around the house ….. if I lived alone I would get up and sort it but DH gets restless …...

I am very good at putting things in boxes in my head and closing the lid very tight....that probably makes me sound a bit mad  ::)

It has taken a lot of practise but events many years ago taught me it was the only way to keep functioning.

So....when racing or obtrusive thoughts start I make a very conscious effort to put those thought in the box. I tell myself I don't want to think about whatever it is and shut that lid.

It really works for me and I get to sleep.
