A quick survey. Do you have more Good Vs. Bad days on HRT?
« on: April 28, 2015, 08:21:16 AM »

I'm only 3 weeks into taking HRT, so I know it's very early days still. But last week I started keeping a mood diary, and rating each day Good/Medium/Poor/Bad. Overall, I have had 4 Good, 2 Medium and 1 Poor (yesterday). Today feels like it's going to be a Medium, I think?

Just wondering if overall you feel HRT gives you far more Good/Medium days over the month, as opposed to how you felt before HRT?

first month I had dips and weepy moments but those as I've said before were partly because I had been given a such a guilt complex from Doc.

then things have been pretty much stable since then. definitely improved my temper and other feelings in general and overall much calmer person again. wish I had done this years before.

I believe we all get down days but for me these tend not to be my HRT and are because I'm tired, overworked, overexercised  ???, feeling ill/cold etc, outside stresses due to family/friends/household items.

I'd say I'm definitely a lot better than before I was on it - I'm sleeping much better, my moods are moderate now as opposed to completely irrational.  The only thing I'm not keen on is the sore boobs which I didn't have before - but small price to pay.  Still plodding on with the primrose oil hoping that will sort itself out in time

Yes, peegeetip I don't suppose HRT can make every day great as real life has a habit of slipping through.

How long have you been on HRT?

Hi CJ

Yes, I have noticed that since being on HRT my boobs have got slightly fuller again and were definitely achy before my bleed (and still are a bit on day 4 of my bleed).

Before all this peri nonsense started, I always used to get really painful boobs before my period. So bad I used to wear a bra to sleep in. But for the last year or so all that disappeared completely. Boobs never achy or tender before a period. Just felt normal and actually seemed to be shrinking very slightly.

Would this be due to lower oestrogen in my body, I've often wondered? Does anyone know?

I think this is a really good question to ask GypsyRoseLee and something I'd often wondered as I aware hrt  has some trade offs. It would be interesting if the ladies who reply indicate if they are taking for peri or post ie oestrogen only or combined. I'm not on hrt yet so can't contribute but keen for feedback.

Yes, I meant to ask them to say whether they were on HRT for peri menopause issues or if they were post menopause. Doh!

I'm peri and using 25mcg Estradot with 10mgMPA for 12 days. I started in February this year. Interestingly enough I have a sleep app on my phone... you could see a marked difference in the quality of sleep from the first night I had a patch on! And when I am on the MPA days, the quality rises even more - this is why I take the tablets in the evening.

On the whole, I have more positive days than off days. More even tempered days than rages/weepiness. I'm not as achy either but I still get intermittent tinitus and tight jaw muscles due to clenching (although that is decreasing - drool marks on the bed sheets indicate a very relaxed jaw  ;D)

Last week was a big stress test for HRT - trip to Germany for a training course - onward travel to our final destination was fraught with cancelled trains and lack of understandable instructions... I didn't panic at all and actually enjoyed the course. Not even the merest hint of anxiety on the flights.

In summary I feel better on this combination that off it ... for now ;)

Thanks Galadriel. Can I ask what is MPA?

Did you start HRT because of mood swings and poor sleep?

Medroxy Progesterone Acetate - is is a synthetic progestogen which is more similar to our own natural stuff but not quite the same - it is derived from progesterone, unlike norethisterone/norgestrel which are derived from testosterone.

I started HRT (again) because of poor sleep, aching everywhere, dryish lady bits, mini flushes etc. The mood bit took a bit longer to settle - I did feel a bit wired and jittery to start with but it got better after I moved the patch to my butt.

Thanks Galadriel. Can I ask how long before you felt your moods settle?

HRT for me was a wonder drug. I very quickly felt a new woman, no moods or anything and no flushes or sweats, also my joints didn't hurt so much. Wish I could take it for the rest of my life lol.

I think it took me about 10 weeks to settle with moods - I very nearly didn't order the next month but decided to give it a proper chance. :D

Hello ladies.

I am 58, post meno. When my periods stopped I experienced the many and varied problems the menopause has to offer but I soldiered on for three years until I realised I needed help. It is perhaps because I left it so late to start HRT that I haven't noticed as much improvement as I would like, I assume my hormone levels were so low that they are taking longer to recover. I have however noticed a lot of positive changes so I will stick with the programme and hope things get better (even for an old bird like me!)

Wishing you all well ladies.
