Bowel habits and taking HRT

Excuse me trying to get to the bottom of this
but I've been going back through my records this morning and I noticed that since I switched from taking HRT in the morning (which gave me nausea) to taking it with my evening meal, I've been experiencing really nasty sludgy bowel movements in the morning ... it's taken a while for me to spot this pattern as there have been one or two days where this hasn't happened ... but it seems to be predominating now. This morning I had two bouts of diarrhea at 7 and 7.20am (yep I'm sure you wanted to know that
Anyway, has anyone else noticed changes in bowel habits and/or linked these with taking HRT?
Just to say that prior to switching to taking HRT at night (Nuvelle Continuous) I was taking it first thing in the morning with water. I then found that about half an hour to an hour later I would get severe nausea which made eating breakfast very difficult. I read some information on this site which suggested switching to taking it in the evening with an evening meal and I also spoke to the Boots pharmacist who confirmed that suggestion. This was on 15th April and the sludgy bowel has been happening since around that date ...

Also, just to add, can anyone recommend a good yogurt which might restore good bowel bugs? Because I'm wondering whether the HRT has upset the healthy bugs in my bowel?

There are not really enough good bacteria in yogurt to make a significant difference but you can buy good probiotics from health shops and online that have billions of bacteria in them. If you do want just to do it from food Actimel drinks are nice as is Greek natural yogurt.
You can also buy digestive enzymes that may help and if you google Bowel Essence you may find that is what you are looking for.
Sorry I can't help with the route cause. I have had IBS for years and some of the things I have mentioned have helped me.
Hope you can get sorted out as having bowel troubles is horrid.

I have Onken natural bio. It's in a big blue pot and advertising kitchen gadgets as prizes on it at the moment! (So it's easy to find!)
You can also buy acidophilus tablets at Holland and Barrett.

Have you considered using a patch HRT instead. Because the hormones are delivered straight into the bloodstream they are not metabolised by the liver which cuts down on the digestive problems. Some women do react to tablet form HRT and Nuvelle does list nausea and diarrhoea, bloating etc. as a side effect. Evorel Conti I believe has the same ingredients as Nuvelle?

Thanks for these replies and also your comment Taz re: patch. I didn't do any research when I went to the last Dr and requested HRT because I was just so unwell. But this is a question I will take to the new doctor I see Monday and ask her whether I should be trying something else.
BTW the Nuvelle booklet doesn't list diarrhea as a side effect - although it does list bloating and gas as side effects.

To reiterate what Tazz suggested, I would ask about swapping to a transdermal HRT, like the rub on gel or a patch, which will prevent you having to swallow tablets. For the progesterone part you can ask your Doc about using Utrogestan, a lot of us use it vaginally, then you need not have these tummy issues.

Thanks Cassie. I thought Nuvelle Continuous contains both oestrogen and progesterone - so if that's the case, won't they both be delivered in a Nuvelle Continuous patch? I really want to avoid (if at all possible) trying more and different HRT's!
BTW one of the library staff has just told me I look really well today! And I feel fine - very competent - like I could get on a plane to Canada and move back. I have to say that my symptoms are utterly bizarre to me ... yesterday I spent most of the day lying prone on the floor feeling like I had no energy and all I could do was relaxation exercises. I can't help feeling that I've not had a nervous breakdown but I have had some kind of hormonal breakdown

I take my oral HRT after breakfast and that seems to stave off feelings of nausea.

Thanks Morwena. I just spoke to another Boots pharmacist and she said patches are tolerated so much better than tablets ... I really wish the Dr who put me on HRT had told me this - I didn't get any information on it and there's no information in the Nuvelle booklet about ways to overcome the issues of nausea.
The pharmacist has suggested I continue taking them in the evening for now and then get patches on Monday when I see the Dr.

Usually it's because patches cost the practice so much more than pills Greenfields. Good luck with the doc on Monday.

I have IBS as a symptom of perimeno, but the patches have helped, although my bowel has not been functioning properly lately again. I am sorry to hear you have nausea, I hate nausea, it makes me want to stick my finger down my throat.
