Continuous Oestrogel? and other questions
« on: April 10, 2015, 07:46:27 AM »

Hello there, have just started on a regime of  two pumps of Oestrogel and Utrogestan (but haven't taken that part yet)
Wondering if you take the Oestrogel continually or do you have a break from that too??

and what the lowest amount of progesterone you can safely take - 100mg for 12 days  would that be ok? or does it have to be 200mg?

What is other's experience of tweaking the regime to suit?

I've never got on with progesterone
And I'd  quite like not to have a period for a while as have had terrible problems over last years with heavy periods and anemia.. all my hair fell out and I got quite sick.. As now am back to decent iron levels am thinking that the 3 months no period thing sounds good, would I be ok to do that?

My doc has absolutley no idea about HRT and just prescribed what I asked for and sent me away to do it myself!!
Should i get a referral to a specialist to talk about the best way forward with it?

thanks

Hi abby. As far as I know you use the oestrogel continuously. I see from previous posts that you began this regime at the end of last year - did you have problems so you had to stop? Hurdity replied to your post then so I've linked it here http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,26111.msg402181.html#msg402181  as it's easy to lose past posts and I thought it might help.

I can understand your not wanting to have periods for a while if you have now got your iron levels right again but you obviously do need to protect your womb from endometrial cancer which is the purpose of the progesterone induced bleeds. Unfortunately HRT can cause fibroids to grow too which can cause heavy bleeding or did you get yours ablated?

Someone else will be along soon who is more knowledgeable about Utrogestan. I was prescribed it but, annoyingly, couldn't use it due to me having a sensitivity to soya which is what the capsule is made from.

HI Taz! thanks for that, yes I had to stop last year as i was bleeding continuously and had to start taking Esmya to shrink my fibroid.. Now  I've finished I am restarting the regime..
I am now waiting for an ablation... which could be any day soon, fingers x'd

so, maybe the thing to do is the Progesterone from day 15 onward as directed and see how that goes

Thanks for replying.. (I will be using it vaginally I think)

I will re-read the reply from Hurdity, thanks a lot for that

Glad it helped.  Good luck with the ablation.
