Update & implants
« on: April 08, 2015, 10:46:56 AM »

Hi everyone, just a little update really as I haven't been on for a while. Well last Thursday I had a follow up with prof Studd to see how I was getting on, it's been nearly a year since I started with the gels etc, I'm still on 4 pumps of oestrogel, 1 tube of testim per week and the utrogesten every month although I haven't been sticking to that and it's been more like every other month.
He asked how things had been and I told him ok but I know I could feel better, I still have anxiety, lots of aches and pains not so much depression although the anxiety makes me feel that way sometimes! Periods/bleeds are all over the place (probably to do with me not sticking to the utro as I should be)?? My libido has improved a lot and to be honest I kinda feel that this is the only improvement? Hubby says I am much better but I tend to hide a lot of how I really feel as he doesn't really understand the anxiety and how it makes us feel. I told prof Studd it's like I'm just "waiting" for something to kick in, to start working?
He was taking notes as I was speaking and I mentioned the implants, he said I could have them and before I knew it I was on the bed having them inserted! Oestradiol 50mg and testosterone 200mg he's also changed my utro to provera and I can't really read his writing but it looks like 5 something? I was told to carry on with the gels for approx a week then stop but the receptionist (who seems very knowledgable) said I should carry on for 2 weeks as the implants can take up to 2 weeks to kick in. I'm wary of the provera as the Utro made me feel miserable and confused as to why he changed it? My last lot of utro didn't cause a bleed even though I took it for 7 days not 5 as I usually do, maybe this is why?
I asked about side effects of the implants and he just said I would feel better!
Anyway I'd be interested to know if anyone else has them and how they got on with them?
Thanks girls  :)

Hello Estelle.

Thank you for posting your experiences.

I'm not sure but I don't think many ladies here are using implants so responses and advice may be limited.

I can promise you one thing though, if Prof Studd is right and this treatment makes you feel better, we'll all be beating a path to his door!

Wishing you well and keep posting.

K.

Hi Estelle - the reason that not many ladies on here are using the implants may be because, as far as I know, they are not available on the NHS rather than the fact that they may not be effective.

Let us know how you get on!

If Prof Studd suggested them …….. …….. let us know how you get on, you may find keeping a mood/food diary useful too!

Well he didn't actually suggest them as such, I mentioned them and he basically said I could have them if I wanted and before I knew it I was having them!
I usually do keep a mood diary although when things are going good I tend to forget to use it  ::)

I'll update on how I get on, I've been told that they don't usually start to work until about 2 weeks after being inserted, that'll be next Thursday  ;)

He did say that the 200mg testosterone was double dose but wasn't concerned?? What symptoms did you have with too much testosterone?
