morning shaking -anxiety, hormone surge or hypo??????????
« on: March 27, 2015, 10:51:07 AM »

6 weeks ago I went down a black anxiety ridden hole when I was put on 40000iu of vitamin D. It set up shaking, panicing, weakness, hypos everything.
The morning was the worst and still is. Once I'm up I begin shaking inside, like a hypo, but after eating it continues, like yet another hypo or hormone surge. I can definateley feel hormone surges some days as I get the prickly skin.
As the day goes on, ie after lunch it mostly goes but I am still getting anxiety attacks at points in the day.
I need to find a solution as I really cant leave the house in the morning as its like one long panic or hypo, yet its not the same as my normal panic attack if you see what I mean.

Are you diabetic Sarai .

If so have you done a glucose test to see.

My hubby is diabetic and describes a hypo as feeling light headed and slightly off balance and weak.

No I'm not diabetic I was tested in February. I have always needed to eat often, but this morning sensation is very extreme, not like anything I have ever had before. I just seem to shake for about 2 hours, if I sit totally still I can stop it but if I try to work through I can't stop it.

Do you think it's a panic attack or the effect of the excess Vit D or actual hypoglycaemia? When I get the latter ( I sometimes get close to the lower limit of blood sugar but get al the symptoms) I get the shakes, sweats, tremors and intense hunger, and it does continue for about 15 mins after I've eaten until the blood sugar goes back up again. I'm not diabetic either. I don't get panic attacks though nor on any large doses of Vits.

What sort of food do you eat and how often - do you have low GI foods that even out the blood sugar? Two hours is a long time to shake!

I did find this re Vit D and blood sugar:

Vitamin D may affect blood sugar levels. Caution is advised in people with diabetes or low blood sugar, and in those taking drugs, herbs, or supplements that affect blood sugar. Blood sugar levels may need to be monitored by a qualified healthcare professional, including a pharmacist, and medication adjustments may be necessary.

http://www.mayoclinic.org/drugs-supplements/vitamin-d/safety/hrb-20060400

This seems to be echoed elsewhere too so maybe the very high doses are leading lowering your blood sugar to an extreme level, or a rapid decrease even if not actually within the hypo range. Blood sugar measurements will test for high blood sugar as an indication of diabetes, and if it is the 3 month hameoglobin one it just averages out your blood sugar levels over 3 months - so won't give an indication of any sudden lows you might be experiencing.

I would definitely eat lots of low GI foods and eat little and often - perhaps also something slow release before bed, until your vit D levels have returned to normal? Also cut out sugar if you can and replace with complex carbs. You can but try?

Oh Hurdity, thank you so much.
The vitamin D, I knew it. My level was 18 and I was told to take 40000iu per week, I managed 4 weeks. The first dose I suffered the worst effects of my life, like a day long hypo. It went on all week. But I foolishly thought it was me. I thought I was having panic attacks. I scoured the net for info to fit my issues. I thought I brought it on myself as I could find no info. I did eventually find an odd few people who adversely reacted to vitamin D.
I asked for a retest after 4 weeks and my level is now 97. The doc admits that reaction is rare. And a rise so fast is also rare. Don't I know it, I stopped taking it 2 weeks ago and realise I am on a sugar roller coaster. I was a low blood sugar person naturally anyway but this now is extreme. I have no control at all in the morning.
I've moved to porridge, with xylitol not sugar added and a few grapes, but it does not help.
I will look for low gi food. Just wish I fancied meat for breakfast.
Thank you so much for that info.

For 2 mornings I have eaten Lizi's Granololo - not sweet enough for me  ;D but a small bowl with milk and next week I will try it with cream   :-X    8) ………. it can be eaten 'dry' if necessary.

It's likely to be an adrenaline surge ……..  do not get out of bed until you have had a glass of cold milk or something slow release like a banana.  Then rest for 20 mins..
