Thought I could just deal with it but I can't (prem meno)
« on: March 26, 2015, 12:14:14 PM »

Diagnosed couple days ago. I am in premature menopause. I'm 39. It was a shock but then I thought everything will be ok cause I'll just deal with it. I feel like a monster has taken over my body. I'm not sleeping, headaches, mood swings, hot flushes, night sweats, joint pain, low libido. Doc has put me on livial but that's in mean time cause I have to see gynae. Livial won't protect me enough as I only have a very low amount of hormones left now.
This morning I lost it with my little boy (7 yrs) and for no reason. I was shouting like a mad woman  :'( and the rest of the day hasn't been any better. Might sound completely pathetic to everyone but for me it's been horrible  :(  I've cut my finger peeling potatoes, knocked my toe, dropped the clean washing on the floor and feel exhausted.  Feel like hiding away in a dark room till i'm normal again and not scaring away my lovely family  :-\
If there is light at the end of the tunnel well I can't see it at all  :-\

 :bighug:  ………  :welcomemm:

Firstly, apologise to your little boy. Explain that Mummy has had (fill in gap) and choose together a buzz word that he can shout at you something humorous - so that he is aware that it isn't his fault.  [even if it is something he has done  ::)]

HORMONES  >:(  ::) - your symptoms sound 'within normal limits'.  Why has your GP referred you to a Gynaecologist?  Not a bad move, in the mean time keep a mood/food diary and make a list of symptoms.  Will you take someone to the appt. with you?

You need hormones to protect your bones and heart.  Have a browse of the menu top of screen and ASK lots of questions here!  You're not alone any more.

Fed up.. I started in my late 30's too. Also turned into a different person. I truly believe there is light ( I may be starting to see it right now with hrt). Now I'm 42 and working through it. My family has been through a little whirlwind with me also. Poor people :(
Do you have a partner?  Getting them on board to help when you feel like you're losing your mind can really help.
There was a time for instance that the thought if making my familiy's supper gave me panic attacks. How random!! Hubby took over suppers for a bit.

I think this time is one long practice of 'self talk'. Telling yourself constantly when you're at your worst that this too shall pass. There is help. It varies by woman. Be your own best advocate.

Hi there feduphormones

 :welcomemm: from me too.

So sorry to hear about how you are feeling. I totally agree with CLKD - when your boy comes back from school give him a big hug and apologise, and especially if he had done nothing wrong. Maybe tell him you had a bad headache or something he can easily understand?

Good to hear you have been referred to a gynae so that you can be given the right treatment you need at your age, rather than as sometimes happens the docs are floundering and prescribe the wrong level of HRT or something.

I hope the livial makes you feel beter in the meantime? Have your periods stopped completely or are they very infrequent? Livial is only meant to be given during post-menopause when bleeding has stopped. I'm not sure what happens if you are still having periods?

Hi ladies. Thank you for your replies. My story goes like this -
I've a always had trouble with heavy bleeding and pain since 13 years old.  I've been blessed with 3 beautiful children. My problems for worse. So in 2009 after my 3rd child they gave me an endometrial ablatian which sorted my heavy bleeding out. The pain never got better. So last year I was diagnosed with endometriosis and adenomyosis. I did 6 months of decapeptyl injection with livial add back.  If this sorted the pain they would do hysterectomy.  After 6 months I decided to stop all treatment and try deal with things with tens machine and paracetamol if needed. My bleeding had stopped a year before treatment. Then about a month ago I started with all the meno symptoms. Went to docs and there you go. So relieved I didn't go through with hysterectomy now.
The reason doc sending me to gynae is because of my history. And where I still have a few bits of hormones left, they don't want to encourage pain from endo with wrong hrt. So gynae would be best person to treat me. Waiting a call back for app with her.
Yes my hubby had read so much past few days on meno. He's brilliant.  I still feel so alone though. Silly as it may sound.  But I've worked so hard since last year to lose much needed 2 stone and it worries me that I'm going to put it all back on again. Shallow I know but I was just starting to feel confident again

Went through early meno @ 38, ask for the bio identical hrt, the gel and utrogestan works a treat, you are far too young to go it alone, all the best.

No its 2 things, its a rub on gel (the oestrogen part) and a tablet which you use monthly for the progesterone part. They work wonderfully for me, been on them for 12 yrs and dont intend to stop now, no symptoms of meno at all....without them, I hate to think :)

Yes there are many ladies on the gel in the UK it is known as Oestogel, you rub it on your skin, your inner thighs, I rotate you rub it on every single day, its a pump plunger and one can alternate the dose I keep my to the lowest @ 1 pump per day, it controls my symptoms, it works transdermally and is considered much more user friendly than oral HRT....you can also get a transdermal patch, if you prefer....you need a progesterone with it, if you have a uterus and the best one for that is utrogestan, used per mouth or vaginally, your Dr will be able to advise.

How interesting using gel. Brilliant what they have available these days. Will do my research and discuss it with gynae. So much to think about. Right at this moment it feels like I'm melting grrr.
