Not had a good time, but feeling better
« on: March 24, 2015, 01:59:39 PM »

Hi all, sorry if this is a bit long.  I am 45 years old I have 4 children who are all in their 20's now.  My periods had always been regular, every 28 days, then about a year ago they started becoming irregular, 30 days, 34 days, and even 45 days.  I started to get neck and joint pain, and my PMT became extreme.  Periods became heavy and lasting longer, really bad stomach cramps etc, but not hot flushes.  I went and saw my doctor who did blood tests and I had a pelvic ultrasound.  All the results came back normal.  They tested my thyroid as well, all normal.  Bloods said no signs of menopause yet.  I started to feel as if I couldn't cope and was bursting into tears at the slightest thing.

After a few more months I went back to see my Dr and described all my symptons as above and then burst into tears saying I just wanted to feel normal again.  He then offered to put me on a low dose HRT and then said this may help you and see if the hot flushes go!  I had to laugh as I hadn't even mentioned hot flushes, but felt relieved he was agreeing to HRT.

He prescribed Prempak C - low dose.  I have been on them a few weeks now and feel so much better already.  The joint pains have gone, my skin and hair is looking better, I am sleeping better and generally feel good.  Just hoping this continues.  I have now started on the progesterone tablets so am hoping it doesn't go down hill.

I must admit I don't think I was ready for what was about to happen, my Mum went through this at aged 50 so I thought I had a few years yet before I would have to deal with it.  Can't see myself coming off this HRT to be honest.

Hi Tangerinedreams

 :welcomemm: from me too.

Sorry to hear you have been feeling rough - we've all been through it otherwise we wouldn't be on here!

Hope you continue to feel better on the HRT  :)
