Son loses bag
« on: March 19, 2015, 10:50:48 AM »

Son was over in Ireland with GF for St Patrick's day. They were returning yesterday. Had to get up at 3.30am in order to drive to airport for flight to UK. Flight from Gatwick was then diverted to Edinburgh due to peasoup fog up here. They were bussed up arriving here after midnight. Last off the bus & son's bag was gone. No bags left over. Thankfully he had passport & phone on him, but had prescription sunglasses in his bag plus most expensive jeans he'd ever bought. I said that these things are replaceable. Hope whoever took his bag like his stinky washing!

keep on nagging at the airline (was it an airline bus?) or the bus co. Someone very tired may have taken it, thinking it was their bag. I hope he gets it back.

If that was the case though, there would have been a bag left over. Wonder if it was actually put on the bus? It may still be at the airport.

Having worked for many years at airport it is most likely still at airport where he disembarked ! Try there.

If he didn't physically put the bag on the coach himself, it's very likely 'lost' in bagage handling somewhere.  When he was coming from from Dublin a while back, my husband's flight to Leeds-Bradford was cancelled due to high winds - he was transferred to a flight to Manchester, but his bag wasn't!!  Airline delivered it home a few days later.

Contact the airline - even if he DID load it himself, it's still possible someone took it by mistake (maybe both members of the couple picked up a bag, neither realising the other had collected it - it's very easy to do in the confusion of late-night travel disruption).

Keep nagging  the air-line  ;) - proviso that he won't accept it back unless the washing is done and ironed !

Airline have said they will recompense him, but they have to wait a reasonable time for it to be returned. He's spitting feathers as you can imagine.

They head off to Florida in 5 weeks time, so was relieved he hasn't lost his passport. His GF phoned airport this morning, nothing. He has to phone every day, though they think tomorrow would be earliest he will hear. I have my doubts though.

He didn't load himself, but stood over guy who did. There were two loads of diverted passengers BA & Easy jet on the same bus, so doesn't know which airline passenger took his bag. Not sure why he didn't take bag on bus as he only had hand luggage, but he's not in a mood to ask that question at the moment. Also lost paper part of driving licence as they hired a car over there. Had photographic bit in his pocket. Time will tell. Maybe person who took it to scared to return it in case of repercussions, who knows.

No. Looks like a goner. Not sure how long Easy jet will make him wait for compensation.

Spoke with him tonight. Easy jet will pay some compensation. His opticians still have receipt from when he bought his prescription sunglasses & are happy to provide a copy for a claim. If he claims it through his travel insurance he'll have to pay a £50 excess. He is going to wait & see what airline decide to give him. He's calmed down heaps & accepts it could have been worse. He has his passport for his holiday to Florida in a few weeks time. That would have caused a lot of hassle if that had been in his bag.

Well son claimed £320 for loss of his possessions, mainly prescription sunglasses. Easy jet have offered him £280. Pretty good I'd say. They deducted for wear & tear which is fair enough. He's pretty chuffed considering.
