I've had coccyx pain since December last year and been having physio (ultrasound and acupuncture).  There's not been any improvement and now its really getting me down - it literally burns by the end of the day - and I've spent a fortune of various different types of cushions etc.  My GP is now referring me and thinks they will do a cortisone/steroid injection.  I'm terrified!  I had one of these years ago in my shoulder and nearly passed out - and I'm not needle phobic - the pain was awful.  Much as I want an end to the pain, the thought of this procedure fills me with horror - I know I'm worrying early as I've not even seen the specialist yet!  I never used to worry like this about things   Has anyone had something similar that can reassure me its not that bad!!

Can't reassure you sorry but maybe this can be done under a GA?  I would ring the Secretary of the Dept. to find out what the procedure usually is    That part of the body moves constantly …….. and once inflamed, I had to sit on a cushion for
months

Tell them what happened before and ask for a local first. 

It might just be that last time the injection was too close to a nerve

Seeing the specialist next week - spoke to the secretary and apparently he does offer sedation - so I'll be taking it!

I had a steroid injection once, for joint pain in my hip. I don't remembering it hurting at all (apart from the needle!).

I also had coccyx pain - for a year. It just stopped one day - I've no idea why I got it nor why it stopped suddenly.

I'm hoping that will happen for me tabbycat - just wake up one day and it will have gone - I've read that some people have it for years and years .....can't bear to think that might happen I just live with it a day at a time

I sat on a cushion for several months in order to allow the area to heal.  There's a lot of movement down there!

Saw the consultant last week, and today had an MRI and Xrays done.  The Xray was quick, but the MRI took 45 mins and lying constantly on my back and boy its sore now - but at least its done!  The xray lady told me that my coccyx is at least in one piece but couldn't really tell me any more.  Seeing the consultant for the results on 9th April.  He thought it was simply inflamed, but wanted to rule out anything sinister going on - which of course now has me worried.....

Inflammation is probably at the root of your pain.  Let us know how you get on and what the suggestion is! and sit on That Cushion

I had a fractured coccyx due to my ex husband kneeing up the bottom when he was dreaming he was playing football That was his excuse anyway! I'm afraid to say the pain lasted several years before it went. Hopefully, if yours isn't fractured it won't take so long to calm down.

Oh my marras - perhaps my hubby has done the same and not told me!! he is inclined to do some football while he's dreaming

  ;DI am in no doubt that you would know if he had CJ! That was many years ago and my ex actually hated football but had very vivid dreams. My now hubby LOVES football and played it until quite recently but fortunately not in his sleep. So, so painful though and I hope yours resolves itself soon.

I'm seeing my consultant this afternoon for the results of the MRI and x-rays.  Fingers crossed he can offer me a solution to this pain, it really is getting me down.  Honestly I feel about 100 years old when I get out of bed these days - my shoulder pain, and now a*se pain as well - where does it end!! I can't help thinking if I'm this stiff and sore at 48 what on earth will I be like in 10 years time!!

Saw the consultant - my coccyx is very inflamed - I could have told him that    Also my lower spine isn't straight, and I have a bulging disc - explains a lot.  He's going to do a caudal epidural and steroid injections and also facet joint injections on 29th April, under sedation which I'm grateful for!  Fingers crossed this will ease my pain
