Restless/painful feet at night
« on: March 11, 2015, 03:28:26 PM »

Does anyone else suffer with restless feet at night - recently mine have been so bad that they are keeping me awake, I try and take paracetemol before bed but even that doesn't always help - my toes also feel painful when I bend them, my big toenail looks slightly discoloured so I'm wondering if I've got a fungal nail infection but this surely wouldn't cause the other symptoms.

Don't often go to my gp but this is driving me mad and has got worse since my periods 'went south' - last one was six months ago, previous one was 8 months - I'm 52

Thanks

Restless leg syndrome can be eased by eating high potassium foods, i.e. bananas daily.  I had to lay with my legs up in order to get any relief from symptoms  :'(

I would show your toe to a chiropodist or pharmacist/GP ……. a GP can check your pulse rate in the lower leg to make sure that you don't have a problem = discolouration.  Let us know how you get on!

I get painful feet and tingly legs at night when I'm not on HRT - it's torture.
Do you get any other menop symptoms?  DG x

Magnesium.  It's a muscle relaxant and deficiency causes muscle twitches.  If a stop taking mine I end up with restless legs and cramp at night.

It's a nightmare ! I've had it all my life, I've noticed lately mine is at its worst when I'm in orstrogen only part of HRT. I eat bananas everyday and I sleep with legs in air! A cold cloth over feet sometimes helps. I've just have up, runs in my family, mum, daughters, brother, sister and just lately my poor niece complaining of it x

I put a HUGE pile of blankets under the mattress to keep legs up as high as possible but of course, they would slide onto DH's side of the bed whilst asleep.  I take Nurofen an hour before bed if necessary …….. I know the moment I get into bed if they are going to be problematic  :-\ ………  cramp can be a lack of salt in the diet  ;)

Hi Yorkshire Rose
As another rosebud57 mentioned - I found Magnesium sorted me out, I take Solgar - 3 tablets with dinner and that really helped. I used to feel like my legs were pulsing and I used to get appalling cramp. I has a chat with my local health food store and they offered some good advice.

I also occasionally take a sports recovery tablets in water to sip during the day- with no sugar or caffeine called Hi- 5 Zero which has magnesium in to help when I have been especially active. ie run more that 5k and that just gives me an extra boost to cope.

you can also get Magnesium bath salts and oil - which I found less effective personally but other swear by it

all the best, and hope you get some help!
cheers
