Had tooth extracted yesterday and already have food stuck in it.  Terrified of getting infection but also scared of losing blood clot as had dry socket once before which was agony!!  Any ideas please?  Am rinsing with salt water but only gently.  Don't know what to do!

It will come out eventually as the blood clot releases from the socket.  Keep using the salt mouth wash.  If you have tweezers in a couple of days if the area becomes smelly you can pull it a little to see if it will come out of the socket.  How's the pain?

OK Thanks.  Pain not too bad.  A bit throbbing but haven't actually taken painkillers since lunchtime.  I know the pain of dry socket is very different and too soon for that yet.  Sooo hope I don't get it again.

I think it's a rare condition and you were lucky to get it.  Take pain relief before bed?

Can you call NHS direct for some advice.

Dont think you can do much more than you are doing though.
If you can wait until tomorrow then call your dentist for advice, you maybe given a syringe to gently flush any debris out.

It may feel likes huge hole but it's really small.

Don't start pulling anything out though, you will introduce infection.

Thanks for advice.  Only problem with going back to dentist though is they might charge.  I am an NHS patient but apparently they have used up their funding til April so think I would have to pay to go back again.  Can't remember what they called it but they are offering a special service to NHS patients but not on NHS funding if that makes sense!

Charge for what, appts. should be free at point of delivery.  Give them a ring and let us know?

Our dentist recommends Corsodyl mouthwash for before & after extractions. Leaves better taste than salt water.  Do not take tweezers to the area, that's asking for trouble.

A day after I had my wisdom tooth out I saw a white bit in the hole and thought it was food stuck (porridge ) but it wasn't as dentist had a look just part of the heeling process. X

My husband recently had his wisdom teeth removed.  He swears by filling a syringe with water and flushing it out.  Might be worth a try. X

Millykin, what I think is food looks like porridge - and I haven't had any!  You may be right cos there is more of it this morning.  Will continue salt water for now and see how it goes.   
I have a syringe but want to wait another day to ensure I don't dislodge clot.  x

It throbs a bit after eating although still keeping to softer foods and eating on other side.  In between not really noticing pain.
