Gp visit again !
« on: March 09, 2015, 05:39:30 PM »

Back to GP today after bad weekend ,ask reception first if my prescription was ready for HRT ,no was in with one of the doctor's for signing.
Told doctor was really zonked out with the propranol but that Palps had abated somewhat but after 4 weeks of all this stress ,New tablets etc was rock bottom! Cried in there so she said stop propranol and start 15mg mirtazapine AD I'm now so desperate I'm going to try them ,although I'm so scared of them as had real bad side effect on other ADs including feeling like dying ! I really don't know where Iam at the moment  :'(
She is sending me for a load of bloods again ,thyroid, glucose, etc .

Then a minute ago surgery rang to say they not going to do HRT prescription until they've seen me as they didn't prescribe it for me ! I explained that the specialist had and wrote and told them that and its on my notes ! But can't see a doctor until Friday, and it's not my one ! I really just give up !  :-\ Beside myself now, still at least I have appointment incase I'm horrendous on the ADS !

Surely if letter from specialist is in your file, any doctor at your surgery can sign a prescription for you.  A phone consultation would be all that is required.  Or has the letter gone AWOL?

Oh, Dazned, that is just rubbish!  :(
Why is life so difficult when you're already struggling?
You don't have to start the anti d' s if you don't want to - maybe wait until Friday, when you can get the HRT script?

I'm  sorry you're having such a tough time.xxx

Sorry to read your so down. I cut my propranolol from 20 to 10 mg 3 times a day yesterday against gp's advice as 20 was zonking me down too much. I actually felt 'normal' last night !!! for the first time in a month. I have had a hardish day today and trying to get dinner cooked (or rather 'thrown') has been awful. I haven't exercised today and that hasn't helped but wanted to let you know I am feeling just like you at the moment. I hope you get your meds sorted xxx

Oh Dazned it's just horrible feeling like that, I was there this time last year. I do hope you find something that suits you and gets you sorted even if it's only half feeling normal, think that would help to start off with! Will the GP give you HRT on Friday ? X

My surgery often opt for telephone discussions regarding such things. Guess all surgeries are different. My meno consultant recommended a particular HRT in a letter she wrote there & then I took to GP.  GP phoned to discuss that they'd give it for one month initially. I then made appointment for 4 weeks later to discuss how I'd got on.  Hope you get your HRT dazned.

:bang:  I would ring the Specialist and explain that the surgery are refusing to sign a prescription.  As for the Propranolol, why didn't your GP explain how it works and then for you to cut down the dosage  ::) …….. several ladies here have tried the Mirtazapine with good effect.  The only AD I had problems with was Prozac  ::) - a drug new at the time which supposedly had 'no side effects'  >:(

Why do Ladies have to fight for what they require at a time when already vulnerable ………

Hello dazned.

So sorry you are having this trouble and I am not surprised you are frustrated.

You may find that this AD is the right one for you so perhaps giving it a trial would be a good idea. On the bright side it is not long to wait until Friday and the Doctor you see may be very sympathetic. Fingers crossed that this all works out for the best.

Wishing you well and keep us updated.

CLKD can't call him he is out of country until 21 st when I will see him again.
I won't let him not give it to me ! Just could do without the fight I might have!

I'm sorry for being so down and desperate sounding ,can't help it at the moment ,try this ,try that I'm all over the shop.

Millykin good to hear you have moved on from where you were last year

Hope I do ok with mirtazapine x

You are being dealt with appalling ………. [sp]  >:(

We need to feel validated.  We need to know that if a Specialist recommends a treatment then the GP will prescribe it - that is why they are GPs  :-X

Sorry to read about your struggle, it really isn't good.  I echo comments from CLKD, awful to have to fight when already vulnerable and validation is so lacking amongst many GP's grrrrr

I can't advise on the medication, I only hope you feel better soon x

Sorry if this has been mentioned already.

Is the specialist Private one?
Sometimes there is a problem getting prescriptions from one then advice from another.

If not then the specialist can prescribe themselves rather than using your doc as go between.
Most hospitals should have a pharmacy to call upon.

Perhaps another colleague of specialist could prescribe in his absence?

Hope you get some empathy soon.

Hi peegeetip
Yes specialist was seen privately ,but that is not really an acceptable reason for my doctors to question what he has prescribed for me ,he has written to them with his findings and what he has put me on. We shall see what he says on Friday ! Keep you posted x

Hi dazned,
My Mirtazapine & fluoxetine is prescribed by my private psychiatrist who sends an email through to my GP for him to issue the prescription.
I don't do any of my ADs with my GP only my hrt.

Have you taken the Mirtazapine yet?
