Designing your new home
« on: March 03, 2015, 03:20:46 PM »

Would you have a bathroom with: loo/basin/bath/shower unit : in the same room or if starting from new, would you have a loo/basin in a separate room?

I fancy a family bathroom with: large shower unit, deep bath and 2 wash basins as well as a wet-room downstairs comprising large shower head, loo and sink [good for dogs, washing fruit/veg., wellies]. As well as en-suite loo/basin to at least 2 bedrooms  ………. the family bathroom being between the main bedrooms.

Downstairs utility would be huge - as my current 1 is: room for dish-washer, laundry machine, ironing board, chest freezer and room to air clothing …….

Have you won the lotto CLKD  ;D

I would get rid of my bath. Hubby insists it stays....he has never used it and we have been here for over four years  ::)
I would not have a wet room......they are cold. In our last house we had a huge bathroom, something I had always wanted. It had a P shaped jacuzzi bath and a shower cabinet. It was the coldest blooming room because of the high ceilings and huge window. I now have a standard size bathroom.....that's warm. We have an en suite too which I love.
I love a big kitchen as its where we all seem to spend the most time in.
One thing that I do hanker after is a conservatory. We had one two houses ago and I loved it. One day maybe as we do have the room.

Huge en-suite to master bedroom with whirlpool bath, massive walk-in shower (plenty big enough to 2), toilet and basin.  If I was designing from scratch, all bedrooms would be en-suite (probably with a shower only, depending on DD's preference), and there would be house bathroom with a bath upstairs.

Downstairs I would have a 'cloakroom' (toilet and basin only) - not sure about a shower downstairs - I prefer to bath the dog in the bath where she can't escape.

'Utility room' would be the 'mucky' entrance also - so double as a boot-room.

The focal point of my dream home would be a HUGE open-plan kitchen/dining/living area (I would also have separate 'formal' dining and sitting rooms!).  I know almost exactly how my dream home would be laid out .... just need Camelot to provide the funds then I can get an architect to draw if for me!!

Now where do I start?  ;D

I have a long kitchen with small breakfast bar, which is seldom used. I'd love a kitchen big enough to have a proper square breakfast bar in the middle. Kitchen would be fully fitted with all mod cons. I would have separate utility area for washing machine & tumble dryer.

I'm fairly happy with my bathroom, though not huge it's functional. Loo, wash basin, bath with very expensive shower over bath.  However, an ensuite in our bedroom would be nice, but of course I'd need a bigger bedroom first of all.

Walk-in cupboards for clothes etc.

I'd also love a separate summer house in the garden, to sit peacefully in during the long hot summer months.  Oops just woke from pleasant dream.  ;D ;D ;D

 ;D

I bought DH a 'cabin' for his 60th - it arrived as a flat pack so he spent 4 hours putting it together, like a huge jigsaw puzzle.  We have a shed too ……….

I don't like my loo being in the same room as my toothbrush  >:(

……. nope, haven't won lots: £2.50 on Friday  ;D

Better than nowt CLKD!

I'd love to do more with back garden as it looks naked, but all our landscaping over a few years cost a small fortune.  But maybe by the time I've kicked the bucket it'll be the way I want it.  ;D

£2.50 should have had lots more 0000s on it  :P

I've been getting into our garden    …..    can't have a conservatory as that area of the patio floods  ::)

Put your toothbrush in the bathroom cabinet perhaps  :)

Our garden is improving year on year. It was awful when we moved in but after digging just about everything out things are really coming on.

We have a bar table island type thingy in the kitchen. Only really use it when hubby and I are on our own otherwise we use the dining room. What I really need is a new living room carpet but the thought of shifting all the furniture out is putting me off  ::)

Oh the shifting of furniture  :o ……. we have a 7ft long hand made bookcase FULL which was made by our local carpenter for our 25th anniversary ……… Crikey  :o  ::)

DH washes the carpets with a push along thingy ……. opens all the windows and gets going, cheaper than a sauna  ;)

Don't have a bathroom cabinet ……… I really would not have a loo in the same room as a hand basin/bath by choice …….. it limits the use of the rooms too.

When we travel North I'll bring my wellies, well wellies will already be in the camper  :whist:

Definitely a separate loo from the bathroom and I wouldn't get rid of my bath for anyone as I hate showering. It always makes me feel really agitated all those little jets of water sort of poking at me "wake up wake up hurry up hurry up"  ;D

A master bedroom with an ensuite bathroom rather than a shower. A dressing room. A utility room for the cat litter trays. A walk in larder. All on one level. A kitchen dining room with patio doors out to the garden. A flat garden. Lots of cupboards. A wide hall with room to turn round in. Lots of light. Perhaps a skylight in the hall.
No, I have not thought about it much! Been close to it twice - never came off either time.

I would like a bungalow with;-

large spacious kitchen with room for a small table for breakfast. Would have a smarter, large table in  another room for when people come around to eat. Can't cope with  anybody seeing the war zone that's the result of me cooking.

Car port with door to the house so when it's windy or raining we can get us and the shopping in without getting soaked.

Large utility room with space; for washing machine, tumble dryer, sink for hand washing, big freezer, ironing board, boiler and small overhead drying rack.

A heated swimming pool somewhere conveniently attached to the house.

Re bathroom & separate loo - difficult - But if I'me designing ideal house, separate large loo with nice, reasonably sized basin with heated towel rail.

Proper bathroom - Bath, power shower in large cubicle, vanity unit with lots of storage, massive heated towel rail

If a bungalow can't do this then a house with room for a lift would do nicely

I have designed my ideal bungalow over and over: a heated swimming pool off the master bedroom is essential  ;) - out of bed, step through an automatic shower, skinny dipping be4 breakfast  :P

I love where I live, but when I can't sleep I redesign the inards. I squish all the walls around. I mean who in their right minds want the bedrooms grouped round the front door? Nightmare when the kids were small. I want a garden room and a utility room.
