todays Dr appointment !
« on: March 02, 2015, 04:24:35 PM »

Well where to start .....

First to say she is quite nice to talk to ,clueless but nice  ;D
She doesn't believe in hrt says menopause isn't an illness it's natural  :bang: :beat:

So only went to discuss some long term plan /solution to help with these anxiety surges whilst specialist sorts out my Hrt
Which I explained and she asked ME what I had in mind !  :bang:
Didn't feel it was right to explain me patient you doctor  ;D

So I told her I had joined this site made her look it up there and then on her computer told her it was very informative and she would do well to have a browse ! :) bet she loves me ,she took in good stead I think ;)

Anyway I said that a few ladies seem to do well with propropanol and she seemed to agree  :bounce:

Hope I don't regret this course of action as I would have to eat my words  ;D

It's only small dose  2 x 10 mg then increase she says if I do OK on them we shall see .
Mind you she said if it didn't work it would have to be AD knew I wouldn't get out of there without her mentioning them ! Xx

At least you will get HRT sorted out somewhere else.

I have been asked by a GP what my suggestion was for my anxiety... :o

Like you I have Propanolol. I would suggest just taking one to start with. I was given 40mg to start and it nearly killed me. I now take 10mg in the morning. I would like to take more but they disturb my sleep and make me very cold and tired. The one low dose takes the edge off and I feel fine. Of course we are all different.

Well done for getting her to look on this site. Maybe next time you go back she will have learned something. ::)

It is not up to a GP to 'believe' in a treatment it is against their Hypocratic Oath  :beat: :beat: :beat: …… you keep resisting ADs if you don't think it appropriate for you, try the Propranolol - I swallow 40mg at night and it generally works to stop any anxiety surges in the morning

In the meantime, keep doing your Research and get your Specialist on side.  If a Consultant recommends a treatment then it's a very good Practice that can refuse as again, it's against protocol and un-ethical!

I truly believe the propranolol helps me and I am relieved they do because I cannot take AD'S. I am taking 20mg at the moment 3 times a day and they do seem to have taken away the dreadful adrenaline surges. x

I m going to start off with 10 mg in the morning and 10 mg in evening see how I go . She has given me some more diazepam as well just in case ,she knows I only use them when desperate, and she says it will be OK .If ok will increase to 40 mg daily . Hope it doesn't interfere too much with sleep as I have insomnia now !

Honeybun when you say it nearly killed you what did you mean ,so I know what might happen whilst adjusting ? X

I was on 80mg slow release for 7 months, they did help me. Took a while to get used to, few weird dreams. Eventually I cut down to 20mg twice day then 10mg as needed, haven't used them for months now but keep some for back up in case. Worth a try and if needed I would use again x

Some drugs can react opposite to what we expect.  Tamoxifen almost killed me  ::)

I take any new medication at night so that I can sleep through side-effects ……. so my BB I swallow at 9.00 p.m. any later and I get heart burn  ::)

What is it with these doctors who want us to do their job for them?!!  I have exactly the same from mine.  "What is wrong with you?" and "What would you like me to suggest?"  Funny thing is that when you DO ask for something they don't like it and won't give it...

I had that from a G P once - she told me she wanted her patients to tell her what they wanted her to do for them, in the way of tests, scans etc! Struck me as a bit odd - if I knew what I needed, I wouldn't need to see a doctor!

But at least the GP was engaging and with the internet etc. it is less confrontational to say 'no' ……..

It lowered my blood pressure far too much. I was light headed and dizzy and very very cold. I just felt very unwell for a few hours and then I was fine.

10mg is fine and even 20 is ok on occasions as I am used to it now.

We are all very different though and I have always been a bit funny with pills  ::)

I'm very funny to with tablets ,my body seems to be very finicky with new things !

Was proud of what I said to her especially getting her to load MM on her computer and saying she'd do well to read through it !  ;) Positive she won't though.

And when she mentioned ADs yet again I said and I quote....

I'm not against them per se I would take floor polish if I knew it would work! But I can't tolerate ADs God knows I've tried them all !    ;D ;D

Think she then got the gist that I was desperate for a solution . As I said she has said she will do whatever she can to support me through, I personally think her reluctance about hrt stems mostly from being out of her depth which I understand she isn't a specialist. She did seem to take my comments on board and seemed open to what most would of found pretty patronizing, I think I would of in her shoes.   ;D
No I d like to think it's an area I need to learn more about, I realized though they just don't have the time for that luxury, but that's a different topic . Have a good day everyone. Xx
